William Edward Magee Sr.

Big Lake resident William Edward “Bill” Magee Sr. died Nov. 12, 2009. He was 76.

A service was held Nov. 14 at Lady of Lake in Big Lake. Burial took place at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.

Bill was born July 6, 1933, in Webster, S.D., to Clarence and Helen Magee. He married Lucille Nasca on Feb. 9, 1957, in Sacramento, Calif.


He came to Alaska in 1970. He was employed by the Alaska Railroad for two years, then worked at local Valley farms until he went to work for George’s Packing House, where he eventually took over the business.

He retired at age 62.

Magee’s family wrote: “Dad’s kind heart and sense of humor were an inspiration to us all. He lived his life with integrity and bravery, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.”

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille, and his son and daughter-in-law William and Carrie Magee of Big Lake; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Billy Greenstreet of Homer; son John Magee of Wasilla; son Robert Magee of Big Lake; son and daughter-in-law Anthony (Tony) and Jodi Magee of Big Lake; and daughter-in-law Betty Magee of Sutton; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Malachi and Wanda Magee of California; sister and brother-in-law Pat and Dewey Brown of California; and sister Margret Magee of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Magee; brother John; twin brother Willis Magee; and his son, Edward (Eddy) Magee.

Kehl’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
