Jean Fonda Gonzalez, 59, died at her residence in Wasilla on Feb. 23, 2010, following a long battle with end-stage renal disease.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. March 1 at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., Wasilla. Pastor Steven Reem of the Palmer Highway Church of God will officiate. Her ashes will be buried at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery in Derry, N.H.

Jean arrived in Palmer on July 2, 2007, moving to Wasilla in September 2008.

The family wishes to add, “Mama has left us too soon, but her life was well lived. She had the prettiest blue eyes that would lighten and darken with her moods and hair colored various shades of auburn after the dark tresses had turned gray. She loved the beginning of each new season, crocheting, shoes and gardening. She was a great cook, loved country music a little more than the rest, growing red geraniums and keeping yellow carnations in her house. The smell of freshly mown grass made her smile and think of good childhood memories of her Daddy. Her two favorite movies were “Doctor Zhivago” and “Wait Until Dark.” She used only three or four perfumes during her lifetime, each seemingly an incarnation of the last. She loved us all so well and now she is with God. I can only wish to have a little girl of my own one day who will love me and call me Mama. And I will call her Jean.”

Jean was born in Exeter, N.H., on July 12, 1950, to John Noyes and E. Fields. She is survived by a son, Patrick E. Gonzalez; two daughters, Christina M. Gonzalez and TammyJean (TJ) M. Gonzalez; a granddaughter, Samantha J. Gonzalez; a grandson, Patrick J. Gonzalez, all of Wasilla; niece and nephew, Robert and Terry Farland of Derry, N.H. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elauterio Gonzalez on July 15, 2006.

The family asks that no flowers be sent due to allergies. Donations may be sent in c/o TJ Gonzalez, 4281 Greenview Circle, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Arrangements were made through Valley Funeral Home and Crematory, Wasilla.
