Three types of Health Valley Organic Chewy Granola Bars have been pulled from suppliers’ shelves around Alaska in a statewide recall.

In a public press release today from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the flavors of Peanut Crunch, Dutch Apple and Wildberry have been deemed unsafe for public consumption due to possible Salmonella contamination and should not be eaten.

“In a voluntary recall from the manufacturer, alerting distributors, suppliers and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation we started a recall over the past weekend,” said Ron Klein, program manager of the DEC.

“Suppliers have removed these products from their stores and we are trying to get the public aware of the potential danger and remove them from their homes as well,” said Weld Royal, public information officer for the DEC.

Salmonella infection can be a life threatening illness with “symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fevers within eight to 72 hours ... Consumers with questions or concerns about their health should contact their doctor,” according to the press release.

No illnesses have been reported so far in association with granola bar’s possible contamination.

" Do you drive a car? That new car smell isn't good for you either. Comedian George Burns smoked cigars until he was past 100 and there are people who drink a bottle of whiskey every day, for their health. You granola crunchers/tree huggers can not run away from genetics. Chances are you can look there to see where you will have health problems. Nobody gets out alive. So lighten up. Enjoy a Big Mac once and awhile, it won't kill you. "

" to LOL - keep ingesting those over sprayed produce and preservative injected meats (processed) and we'll see who laughs last. I don't recall "organic" granola bars being spendy put that's a whole new argument as to whom can afford organic or not.. "
