Mat-Su belted 14 total hits and scored 10 of its 11 runs during the first three innings during an 11-1 drubbing of the Anchorage Bucs at Hermon Brothers Field on Thursday.
“Our hitters, outstanding approach at the dish for about five to six innings,” Ringe said. “It gave us a big cushion.”

Of Mat-Su’s 14 hits, five were for extra bases. The Miners tripled twice in the win, and outfielder Andy Mee finished a home run short of the cycle in his Mat-Su debut.
“He solidified it for us right in the middle of the lineup,” Ringe said of Mee, who singled, doubled and tripled while batting in the No. 3 spot. “He got a couple key hits to take the pressure off everyone else.”
Tyler Ruch also finished with three hits for the Miners. Wesley Thigpen and Kevin Whitehead had a pair of hits. Quinn Pippen tripled in the win. Mee led the Miners with three RBI and was one of six players to drive in a run.
“Up and down the lineup, all got involved 1-9,” Ringe said. “It’s nice to see right out of the gate.”
With plenty of offensive support, Jewasko worked through five scoreless innings.
The left-hander, a standout at Division II University of Incarnate Word, allowed four hits and walked three. But he also fanned three and pitched his way out of every jam.
In the top of the third, with the Miners holding a 5-0 lead, Jewasko walked back-to-back hitters to load the bases with one out.
With the Bucs in reach of jumping back into the game, Jewasko forced the next two hittersto fly out to end the inning.
In the fifth, Jewasko’s final inning of the game, he faced runners on the corners with two outs. Again, the southpaw was able to pitch himself out of the inning.
“He got himself in a little trouble, but I felt he got stronger as he went along,” Ringe said.
Random hits … Mee was one of a handful of players to make their season debut on Thursday. Pitchers Jason Trivett and Matt Applegate, outfielder Pablo Bermudez and infielder Matt Wessinger also saw action in a Miners uniform for the first time … Ringe is still the acting field manager as the Miners wait for head coach Russell Raley to arrive in the Valley. Raley is an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma and the Sooners are competing in the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend … All Mat-Su Miners games can be heard on the radio this summer on AM1430. They also can be heard online at 1430hometownradio.com and matsuminers.org.
