I’m always amazed how the light of God’s word works in people’s lives when they get it in their heart. The very essence of what God’s word shows us is being born again, being saved, is God’s will for everyone. All you have to do is make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior.

Many times, we hear testimonies of people who have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and their whole life turns around for good. I remember the testimony of a good friend of mine. When he was saved, he went right home and gathered up all his drugs and paraphernalia and threw it into the dumpster. After years of being bound he was set free.

“And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” it says in John 8:32, and of course God’s word is the truth.

The word of God will not come back void. I have heard about people who have heard the word of God and did not act on it right then, but over a period of time the light shined through. This reminds me of a phone call I received recently from a man from out of state who I knew more than 50 years ago. Except for a brief period about 10 years ago, I had not seen him since we were both young. He called to tell me he was in great distress, torn between the unbelief he has heard taught and the word of God he took in those many years ago as a young person.

False teachings had robbed him of faith, he said, and he could not believe for anything, including the word of God. He asked if I could help him. I said yes. I told him to set everything aside and take up the Bible, the word of God, study it, meditate on it, allow his faith to grow. Romans 10:17 says, ‘‘so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’’

Christians do not seem to understand that this is how we get our faith to grow, by hearing and studying the word of God. As this man continued to tell me of his situation it was obvious he was concerned because he was facing old age. His head told him there was no heaven.

“When you leave this earth, that’s it,” he said.

Somewhere deep down inside of him, however, he knew there was more, because as a young person he had heard the word of God.  That is why he asked me if I could help him. Of course I said yes. I knew a little about his lifestyle, but I did not condemn him. I know that God won’t condemn us, although he will convict us. That was where my friend was at, God had convicted him.

I really had a desire to help him, and that is why I told him to set aside all the false teachings, unbelief and all that faulty theology that is not scriptural that he had taken in, study the word of God — the Bible — and stay away from anything that would influence him contrary to the word of God. I went on to tell him that when he read the Bible, get it into his heart and allow his faith to grow. He had heard so much false religion that he could not believe for salvation at that time, although if he looks to Jesus, the truth will set him free. I will continue to pray for this man and to be there for him.

The world needs Jesus, salvation is a free gift and every Christian needs to tell people about Jesus.

There are multitudes of people in this world who need the truth of the gospel. Second Corinthians 4:4 says, ‘‘Whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is a image of God, should shine on them.”

Another translation says, “Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the good news that is shining upon them. They don’t understand the message we preach about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

The Bible talks about saving grace in Ephesians 2:8: “For by grace you have been saved through faith.” Faith to believe that Jesus paid the price for all mankind sins, only believe in him.

When we accept Jesus and are born again, that measure of faith we receive at salvation can grow. Abraham believed God’s word for the fullest, and like him we can have great faith, but we must believe every word God has given us from Genesis where God spoke the world into existence to Revelation where we see end time events and heaven revealed, that way we will find ourselves victorious through Jesus Christ.
