All information reported in the Police Beat is obtained from police departments’ press releases. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.




Dec. 20, Wal-Mart: Rhonda Newman and Terri Brown allegedly shoplifted $418 in merchandise. Theft charges were sent to the district attorney.

Dec. 20, Alaska Club: Police received a report someone had stolen $220 from a locker.

Dec. 22, 5:21 a.m., Mug-Shot Saloon: Someone stole a coat.

Dec. 22, 6:51 p.m., Target: Jarod Hacker was detained at the store for a possible theft. Police believe he might have been involved in several other thefts from the store and are investigating.

Dec. 23, Wal-Mart: Apollo Faumui was arrested for shoplifting and making a false report. Bail: $500.

Dec. 24, 2:58 p.m., Wal-Mart: A juvenile was allegedly caught shoplifting $130.86 in merchandise. Charges were sent to Juvenile Intake.

Dec. 25, 9:16 p.m., Kalli Cir.: Police began investigating a burglary in which “approximately $775 in cash and an assortment of electronic equipment” were stolen.

Dec. 26, 8:17 p.m., Wal-Mart: A dog was reportedly stolen out of a car.


Dec. 20, Nelson Ave. and Lucille St.: Jude Cameron was stopped for allegedly having expired registration. Charge: DUI.


Dec. 20, 7:34 a.m.: Someone turned in a found gun. Police put it in safekeeping.


Dec. 20, 4:55 p.m., Venia St. and Herning Ave.: Jesse Yount was arrested for DWLR. He had previous convictions for the offense on his record. Bail: $2,000.

Dec. 22, 3:22 a.m., Bogard Rd. near Peck St.: Krysta Hinman was stopped for alleged speeding. Charge; DWLS.

Dec. 22, 9:07 p.m., Swanson Ave. near Boundary St.: Randy Budo was stopped for an equipment violation. Summons: DWLR.

Dec. 26, 6:25 a.m., Alpine St. and Parks Hwy.: Breanna Mahoney was stopped for allegedly speeding. Summons: DWLS.


Dec. 20, Vaunda Ave. and Kimberly St.: Morgan Waycaster was stopped for an equipment violation. Summons: NVOL.


Dec. 21, 4:09 a.m., Mug-Shot Saloon: Dae Poteet was allegedly drunk and trying to leave in his vehicle. He was arrested for violating probation.


Dec. 22, 10:29 p.m., Seward Meridian Pkwy. and Blue Lupine Dr.: James Cotterman was arrested at a traffic stop on a warrant for DWLS.

Dec. 26, 8:43 a.m., Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. extension near The Home Depot: Robert Magee was arrested at a traffic stop on a warrant for failure to report to jail and serve a 60-day sentence.


Dec. 23, 5:52 a.m., Parks Hwy. and Church Rd.: Jesse Saunders hit a moose.

Dec. 23, 2:40 a.m., Parks Hwy. near Hermon Rd.: Julia McBrayer and Taylor McKechnie were in a wreck.

Dec. 23, 2:29 p.m., Herning Ave. and Boundary St.: Tara Willis and Steve Bennett were in a wreck.


Dec. 25, 6 p.m., Kashim Motel: Police received word of a death. The 60-year-old female was found to have died of natural causes.


Dec. 25, 8:31 p.m., Mug-Shot Saloon: Benjamin Jasper was allegedly refusing to leave. He was arrested for trespassing.



Dec. 28, 2:07 a.m., Body Piercings Unlimited and Tattoo, Palmer-Wasilla Hwy.: Someone broke into the business and did $750 damage but didn’t steal anything.

Dec. 28, 6 p.m., Rockside Rd.: Roxanne Olvera, 40, Wasilla, allegedly damaged a family member’s property earlier in the day. She was arrested Dec. 29. Charge: DV criminal mischief. No bail set.


Dec. 28, 10:56 p.m., Bogard Rd. at Leatherleaf Lp.: Justin Anderson, 33, Wasilla, was stopped for a moving violation and arrested for allegedly possessing suboxone without a prescription and violation probation. No bail set.

Dec. 29, 10:22 p.m., Bogard Rd. near McRae Rd.: Robert A. Chopp, 35, Palmer, was stopped for speeding. He was charged with DWLR and with MICS for allegedly possessing Hydrocodone pills without a prescription. Bail: $1,500.
