CANTWELL — A Trapper Creek man died Saturday after he was shot in the leg during a hunting trip around 10:30 p.m., Saturday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Kyle Strong, 29, Wasilla, and Cody Parry, 26, Trapper Creek, were staying at the Parry family’s cabin about a half-mile off the Parks Highway at Mile 169 when a round from a 30.06 that Strong had been cleaning discharged and passed through Parry’s leg, according to a trooper dispatch.

Troopers say Strong performed CPR, and then ran to the Parks Highway to flag down a passing motorist to help him transport Parry by four-wheeler to the highway to meet the ambulance.

Trapper Creek medics declared Parry deceased at the scene.

Troopers said Parry’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy but foul play is not suspected. Next of kin has been notified.

Oh the grief and sorrow these families must bear. Peace and love be with you....

Our prayers go out to both families. Let us all remember to keep our guns pointed in a safe direction always and never close the action or have our fingers on the triggers without having the guns pointed in a safe direction.
