The “Today” show called Friday morning saying it plans to come up Monday and do some interviews about the fence Todd and Sarah Palin built on their property on Lake Lucille.

According to people who care about those things, the former governor wrote on her Facebook account that she was worried about the neighbor, Joe McGinnis, moving in. He’s the author of several books, one of which is an alleged non-fiction story about his exploits in Alaska titled “Going to Extremes.” That was published in 1980. It was a bible for all those who dreamed of moving here or were in the process. Local press wasn’t too kindly to it at the time, saying he missed a lot and exaggerated the rest.

Observers from Outside get that a lot.

McGinnis also wrote last year a fairly scathing article for Portfolio magazine — which no longer exists — about Palin’s plans, or not, for a gas pipeline.

So it’s not surprising she might be a little leery about her new neighbor.

Again, that happens a lot around here, regardless of notoriety.

Fences are built by people who want to keep their privacy or keep out the sight of their neighbors’ unsightly yards.

So the call from “Today,” quickly followed by a similar call from ABC news, seemed curious. The day before it was another national news outlet wanting to know if we had a photograph of the fence. There was an e-mail from Outside asking if the Palins were in compliance with city code. Another note suggested we assign someone to trace every move McGinnis makes while here and write a book about him to counter his about Palin.

Maybe we’re out of step here, but the unanimous consensus of the newsroom is that we don’t really care if the Palins want some privacy from what they worry might be prying eyes.

Fences have been known to make good neighbors and everybody knows we could use a lot more of those around here. So if the fence keeps McGinnis on one side and the Palins content, why would the “Today” show or ABC care?

Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property.

Kudos to the author of the editorial for clarifying his intent ,accepting responsibility, and helping us all understand how, when careless, our words can lead to misunderstanding.

Editor,Your last sentence, as well as the rest of article is just fine. No need to have "more respect" for words, they wonderfully sent an appropriate message. Don't let these chiquaqua's chase you up a tree.

They aren't issuing a death threat- they are reminding this McGinniss stalker-guy of the gun law used in most of the 50 states.

As the editor of a newspaper you know the weight words carry. I find it hard to believe you did not know the full impact of what you were writing.Furthermore, as a purveyor of words, I find it rather shocking you would promote the use of violence against someone using words in the exact same manner you do.

Are you kidding me? Your newspaper caves to threats by sarah palin and so you write this little ol' article. There is definitely a biased slant and it is clear who you took your direction from when writing this article. So, are you really going to let sarah "manage" the newsworthy articles that you publish?Too bad, so sad.

anonymous

The lack of respect for a private citizen, the violation of privacy, and the sickening voyeurism that McGinniss is engaged in is beyond pale, and the desire to know the details about the Palins' marriage is despicable! While it is not illegal for McGinniss to rent the nearby property, it is certainly disturbing.

anonymous
anonymous

I guess it is Sarah's fault now that she has a stalker? Typical liberal, blame the victim and idolize the stalker. The man could have moved to Wasilla, Alaska to almost any neighbornood, but to rent a house 15 feet from the Palin's is a bit over the top and I would consider it stalking or peeping tom like.

anonymous
anonymous

McGinnis has NO criminal record. Palins accusations are out of line. Where is Palins "Christianity? Over 8 times the Bible states to love your neighbor. Palin probably loved your last comment. She didn''t care if her heated rhetoric would incite violence and possibly bring harm to Obama and I doubt she cares about anyone but herself.

anonymous
anonymous

Why do all the idiot commenters (including Drudge and HuffPo) think that last graf suggests the Palins may shoot McGinnis? Why wouldn't McGinnis shoot the Palins? Todd has already visited one too many times at Joe's house; if I were Joe, I shoot off one of Todd's hands next time he came over to show that Joe understands Alaska as well as Sarah does -- in other words, not at all.

anonymous

We have laws in the lower 48. Mr. McGinniss is a private citizen. Ms. Palin and Beck better be careful, if anything happens to Mr. McGinniss they will be prosecuted for aiding and abetting or accessory. Oh and slander is another one that Ms. Palin and family can be sued for.

anonymous

She is the blister on the foot of the demoncrats and it's sin. They look at her as a real threat to their power and they don't like it. That power is to make their friends rich, and powerful with the taxpayers money. Look at who Obama is sharing power with. Most are criminal activists who don't pay taxes, who have disdain for America and who want a dictatorship.

anonymous
anonymous

How many gun nut crazies are there in Alaska.Do you really hate each other that much that you all have to have guns?I'd move somewhere where I can trust my neighbors

anonymous
anonymous

And by the way, there is no need to apologize for reminding people that there is a right to self defense. Every time it's repeated, a bad guy thinks twice about doing something stupid. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and it's better to not need a gun and have one, than need one and be without.

anonymous
anonymous

So now if I want to come to Alaska , do I have to worry about being SHOT by the Palins, and if I do should , everyone that comes to Alaska Carry a gun for our protection against the Palins? Just askin ?

anonymous
anonymous

We have the same law in Alabama. If someone breaks into your house, you can shoot them. If someone is stealing your car in your driveway, you can shoot them. Simple and effective.

anonymous
anonymous

Clearly, Mr. McGuiness is a pervert and a creep. Why else rent a house that over looks the Palin child's bedroom. He is a very sick man and the Palins would do well to keep those firearms within arms reach. Why this writer did not have to register as a sexual predator upon entering Alaska is beyond me.

anonymous
anonymous

The last line is indeed unfortunate. This sort of veiled threat has become increasingly common and like Palin's "reloading" comment implicitly advocates violence. Although the editor's regret is commendable, it does not change the fact that the Frontiersman, like Palin herself, is not ready for the national stage.

The fact that anyone is discussing any of this AT ALL, let alone arguing about in on national television only goes to prove one thing: That Sarah Palin is utterly “irrelevant” to liberals…Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, and practically to the exclusion of all else.Looks like Palin’s now living rent-free in their heads.

anonymous

Sarah doesn't need to use deadly force.....she can do much better than that. She is a conservative super goddess with WEALTH. Buy the dump and jack up the creepazoid's rent till he squeals like a pig about the injustice of it all! Capitalism baby!

I'm from California, New York and Massachusetts (lived in all three for major segments of life) and I fully support the Palin's right to privacy and this article. Seems to me Alaskans get what we are all about in America - freedom of opportuntiy TO THE EXTENT YOU DO NOT HARM OTHERS. The political comments here about the "last 2 line" are as dopey as their originators. In this world of "reality programming" and personal freedom to express any opinion, people DO have a right life, liberty and pursuit of happiness - privacy IS included in there.

I agree the last sentence seems like a veiled threat toward McGinnis. I can't believe a newspaper would publish such a thing or refer to the the rest of the U.S. as "Outside." What gives? How often has the Fontiersman had to send a reporter to cover some sort of event in which a person was injured or killed and ask him, her, or their family for comment. Is that stalking? Do those reporters deserve to be shot?

anonymous

The last sentence sums it up pretty well. If liberals had their way law abiding citizens would have no right to defend themselves from perverts and predators. They work to take away most of our freedoms every day. Thank Heaven for Sarah who is leading the way defeat liberals at every turn. No wonder they hate her.

anonymous
anonymous

In Texas have the right to use deadly force to protect out property. However, we have enough sense to know that someone looking at you or your house does not constitute a home invasion. Perhaps you should remind Mrs. Palin (the great victim) that when you yell for attention at the top of you voice, people are going to look.

anonymous
anonymous

Joe McGinniss is an accomplished author. Ignore the smears. He will do a GREAT job of exposing the phony hillbilly from Wasilla.

anonymous
anonymous

I agree it's kind of strange that an author would move in next door to his subject. But the PR he's getting is priceless and Palin is more than happy to stoke the fire. Those of you who would like to see her in the White House must think that diplomacy by FB is a good way to conduct business. At the least it's a good way to get the measure of her character.McGuinness is not a threat. And even if he is a pest a free press has rights.

anonymous
anonymous

I suspect that Sarah Palin's real fear is that Joe McGinnis will be able to confirm the truth about everything Levi Johnsoton said about the Palin family's dysfunctional extremes in last December's Vanity Fair.

anonymous
anonymous

I'm not sure which is sadder, the antics of most of the medias, or the lunatic response of the public. One thing for sure, the Palin family has become the laughing stock of the country.Sarah decided to become public figure at a level at which her entire family & life are going to be scrutinized. She intentionally continues to play roles to keep her in the limelight. All of this is the cost of her decision to her family, neighbors, town, and state

anonymous
anonymous

The warning in the last sentence of this editorial cuts both ways. If any deranged Palins enters McGinness' house without his consent he has the same right to blow off their tiny heads. Right?I always suspected that if Sarah Palin lived next door, your lawn would die. I look forward to McGinniss' reporting about this, too.

anonymous
anonymous

rusty.granite- Why do you have a problem with someone putting up a fence for privacy. why would the guy move in NEXT door unless he wanted to watch like a perve. maybe you like that

anonymous
anonymous

The last line is fine. That creep employs predatory tactics then cashes in on Palins fame. Who knows what his intentions are? They have every right to protect themselves and their privacy from creeps like Joe McGinnis.

anonymous
anonymous

Palin seems to be handling that McGinniss creep pretty much how I would hope that a president would handle the nuts running North Korea and Iran. Liberals probably disagree and think having a creep as a neighbor is ok and that the best way to handle the North Korea dude is by dropping to your knees and kissing his behind. If Republicans were smart they'd use McGinniss as the poster boy for all liberals. But unfortunately Republicans are just slightly smarter than Democrats.

that McGinniss person sounds like the creep of creeps. Will he be digging holes and sifting through the Palin's sewage and cesspool? Will he be sniffing through their garbage? It's fitting that be should become the poster child for the evil left. .

This guys says he didn't intend to spy on the Palins.I say it is a bold, bald-faced LIE. He's a liar.He had a clever idea [by half] and he got caught. He's not too bright either.McGinnis_is_a_liar. It's so obvious on the face of it.

anonymous
anonymous

And, the Palin's need to remember that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property, as well. Looks to me like the Palin's are the ones doing the stalking so far. He's doing a book for goodness sakes and he is not breaking any laws. The Palin family should have been gracious and welcomed him into the neighborhood - instead of once again crying that Sarah's a victim....she's caused all this hoopla! It's going to bite her in the rear also... too.

anonymous
anonymous

Why would you mention deadly force? Some reporter expresses this and it's supposed to look like Sarah Palin threatened a journalist? What a hack!

anonymous
anonymous

Have you lost your mind? You're advocating his murder? What kind of back wood yocals are you up there in Alaska? So if he uses the "family pond" out back - usually called a LAKE - that's a potential hotspot and he should be executed on the spot. This dime store rag should be put to sleep. This is truly one of the saddest days in print journalism - no wonder papers are on their way out.

And LOL @ anyone suggesting renting a home is "beyond the pale" for a journalist.Journalists imbed with military and terrorist groups in order to cover stories, risking their lives -- move to 3rd world countries and live in squalor -- have we all forgotten the work involved in true journalism? Or do you all just follow Fox News 24/7?

Sarah Palin's reaction to this situation is exactly the backwater, small-minded thinking that should render her completely ineligible for office of any kind. This woman couldn't handle a contemptuous PTA meeting let along running the country.

Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose, are YOU freakin kidding Me. It is humor first off. Secondly it is not disguised as a news article it clearly is an editorial. Lastly you show bias by assuming the last sentence was intended toward Joe McGinnes in a negative way. Maybe it is just the opposite. Maybe the writer intended to help Joe by letting him know if anyone comes on his property and INTENDS harm he may use what force he needs to protect himself.

anonymous
anonymous

What an idiotic final comment.Let's hope all these conservatives keep resorting to guns to resolve their arguments. They know they can't win on the merits, so violence is their only option. Regardless of freedoms, McGinnis is moving in next door to the subject of his book for Pete's sake!! He could find a much cheaper residence elsewhere, so "a great deal" is officially BOGUS. After reading the article, I found an apartment in Wasilla for $450/mo in 2 minutes! How about this: 60-something male Christian fundamentalist author with coke-bottle glasses moves in next door to famous 40-something attractive female abortion doctor, subject of his book. Got a problem with that now!?! Losers. Creepy is friggin creepy! The Palins have EVERY right to be CREEPED OUT!

Be very careful Mr. McGinnis. As Isaac Asimov said; "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." And as we have all known for years, Sarah Palin is the epitome of incompetent and ignorant.

anonymous

Its McGinniss who decided to come to Wasilla to intentionally stalk the Palin's, not the other way around! He lives in Massachusetts, by the way. Well, he did--until he moved into the Palins' backyard. This isn't the first time McGinniss has gone to extremes to gain proximity to Palin. Last fall, when Palin was auctioning off the chance to have dinner with her for the Ride 2 Recovery charity

The idiotic behavior of the Alaska press is exactly what McGinniss's reportage is intended to incite, and the Frontiersman went for it, hook, line, and sinker. McGinniss got what any reporter dreams of without doing anything at all. He's threatened no one. Done no trespassing.

I sugest she and the family migrate to a private residence untill the the squid has gone. Then again, maybe not, as it seems that harrasment at this personal of level just strengthens suport for a good woman.

anonymous
anonymous

I reckon McGinnis moved in next-door in the hope of goading the Plains into some action which might damage her political fortunes and those whom she supports, and if by the way it is possible for him to snoop up and massage into useful shape any derogatory info from her local political enemies, then that, too, will be useful for his attack. The Demos fear Sarah Palin, for who knows, she could be the Republicans' Maggie Thatcher [former UK prime minister] and blow the Democrats into a cocked hat. That'd be cool.

anonymous

Truly poor judgement on the part of the Frontiersman. BTW, the law does not allow shooting becuase someone steps on your property or looks at you property. It's silly to even contemplate that McGinness is a threat to life or property.

I just love to see Liberals acting like they do no wrong in this instance.Progressive Liberals have ruined this country and continue to break the privacy act in the name of bad politics.Chipping away at the antiquated Constitution that this so called person in the White House calls home right now. Lee Hale, Socialist (moronic progressive liberals is good also) don't let the facts get in the way of their statements. If they did they would rarely be able to say anything. Along with the visual barrier the Palins should also electronically jam his listening equipment.

anonymous

I don't know where to start or where to end in commenting on this. It's sad...very sad when people minimize or justify the treatment of this family. A woman lesser than Sarah would have gone insane. She is a true heroine. It's especially sad when our esteemed president, who has visited 57 states and is says "corpsman" pronouncing the silent "p" in addition to a pletora of other incidents demonstrative of his true intellect, is given a pass. Then there's Joe "the Joker" Biden. Where do I start with this buffoon.

anonymous
anonymous

It's pathetic people are missing the point & unjustly pounding on the Palin Family. It's clear this McGinnis guy is bent on intimidating the Palins and mocking them under "the freedom of press". They have every right to be private and take protective measures if need be. I took the Frontiersman's last comment as a polite gesture to McGinnis not to take things too far. All these pompus comments about 'valley trash, backwards & rednecks" is equally pathetic because some of us "cling to our guns & religion!" Just shows the liberal investation in Alaska.

anonymous
anonymous

Of course McGinnis moved next door to snoop on the Palins. To think otherwise is an indicator that you are incredibly ignorant about the laws of probability (millions of square miles in Alaska and he just happens to choose the place next door). How can anyone fault the Palins for seeking privacy for themselves? If someone with an obnoxious agenda was stalking my family like McGinis pursuing the Palins I would make a point of building a target gallery (with a good backstop) in my backyard and encourage my family and friends to spend time plinking in shifts.

anonymous

Nothing funnier than reading the twisted thoughts of leftists trying to conceptualize the idea of personal liberty. These Regressives postulate deep thoughts like "Hey, defending yourself cuts both ways, so watch out, Sarah!". Yeah, we've known that since the Constitution was signed, you dorks. You remember the Constitution, don't you? That document that Obama loves so much that he became a "Constitutional Scholar" so he can tear it down? Get used to it, mental midgets. As long as the Constitution exists, States can allow their Citizens to crack the skulls of meddlling Regressives.

Palin put herself AND her family front and center in the national media so that she could get $100,000 fees for talking for 15 minutes. That's why she abandoned the job she was elected to do two years short of her obligation.Whatever attention Palin is getting, she brought on herself. I actually intended my username to be @Endeavor, since I was relying to his/her point (see May 31, 2010 8:57 PM).I actually live right here in Wasilla. Believe it or not, I've lived in Wasilla my entire life, not counting some college/military travels. I bet it's annoying having people you disagree with live so close to you. You can do all the digging you want and write a book about me. It would probably be pretty funny. What is "hiprocrisy" anyway? I can't find it in the dictionary.

anonymous

How about educating Palin that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property? It is more than likely that she does not know -- she does not know much of anything

anonymous
anonymous

Im sorry, but when did those of us elsewhere in the US become "Outsiders"? I dont think a whole lot of McGinniss for doing this or of the Palin Reality Show but this complex seems to have infected the Paper and more than a few readers.

anonymous
anonymous

Another waste of space brought to you by the tools otherwise known as the Palin trained monkeys / editorial staff of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.

anonymous
anonymous

You are an interesting breed of "journalists" there at the Frontiersman, issuing public death threats against a fellow journalist.

anonymous
anonymous

Hey moronic progressive liberals: Sarah Palin didn't write this newspaper column, so why are you blaming her and calling her unwarranted and fallacious (lying, made up) names? Sarah and Todd still have the liberty and God-given choice to pick and choose when and where they are subjected to the public voyeuristic eye. Just because she was a politician does not give anyone the right to expect that she is available or "on" 24/7. Leave the woman and her family in peace.

anonymous
anonymous

A liberal media stalker, out of all the corners of this entire planet, just HAPPENS to buy a house right next door to Sarah Palin...and the national media Democrats (NMDs) hound the only real media left standing--local media--looking to interrogate them about HER fence? Screw the NMDs and him. Just might be worth a trip up to Alaska to introduce him to the concept of state's rights (and lefts).

anonymous
anonymous

What purpose does the not-so-veiled threat to use of deadly force on McGinnis have to do wth this story? Other than demonstrating that your paper really is an extreme conservative viewpoint.

anonymous
anonymous

Really Wasilla threating violence...tip for Joe McGinnis next time Sarah Palins husband comes over get your shot gun out! Remember Wasilla two can play that game! Yes it is a free country anyone can rent a house if they want. Cry Sarah Cry... That is all I ever see you do!

Bravo Sarah!

Florida has a SIMILAR LAW.I like it!

Imagine, someone moving in next to you.Watching, taking notes/pictures.Of EVERYTHING, you do! Would you feel safe? How about, leaving your teenage daughters & friends, home alone. To swim and sunbath, on your own property? While being filmed, by some creep. Two can play, the same game.Put security cameras up.And record all his actions.FOLLOW THE $.And find out EXACTLY.Who, is paying for the rent utilities etc.I would bet. That it is LIBERALS!Take care, be safe.God Bless.Chris - Alaska

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."Good Lord! Get a grip.

anonymous

I'm sure that her home wif connection is unsecured as well. I mean c'mon, this is a dumb woman that sent sensitive government emails to people using a friggin YAHOO! email account!!!

anonymous
anonymous

McGinniss rents the house next door to Sarah Palin and moves all the way from Massachusetts to spend five months writing about her "public life."The man definitely has an unusual fixation with the Palin family.

anonymous
anonymous

Have the Palin's looked into electronic hardening their home. Visual hardening via fence does nothing about electronic emissions from phones, computers, routers etc. both conducted and emmitted.Being next door is handy

anonymous
anonymous

I guess Sarah Palin really doesn't want to be President! Murder is worse than quitting your job as Governor.

anonymous
anonymous

Sarah Palin has a right to privacy and a right to chose when and where she discusses her personal life. Because some hit-job journalist has decided that it is his duty to try to harrass and embarras her, under the guise of fact-finding is laughable. It proves the point that modern journalists are no better than the "reporters" from the tabloids. Edward R. Murrow you ain't.Journalistic vendettas are the trademark of the loonie left in this country. Too bad that no one really cares, they spend all of their time preaching to a hyperventilating choir.

What I find interesting is there are no comments on the memorial day stories giving thanks to our fallen and their families. These soldiers died so you people can voice your opinions on Palin's fence. Come get your priorities straight.

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."Ah, yea and if necessary Mr. McGinnis might need to make use of that law.

WOW! Such nastiness.Always interesting how "conservatives" fire the frist shot (hinting at shooting someone -"I'm just saying...") and then accuse anyone who disagrees of violent rhetoric. Please look in the mirror!BTW Nice PR ploy Frontiersmman!

If Joe McGinniss wanted to write book, he could certainly do that without moving in next door to the Palins. In fact, it’s hard to figure what Joe McGinnisswould learn from that kind of physical proximity that has anything to do with politics or activism that couldn’t be learned through regular research and footwork.

anonymous
anonymous

I absolutely love Alaskans! The Outside truly is ignorant of rules of civility and personal boundaries. To attribute the Palins' fence to any fabricated flaw of Sarah's is just a diversion from the real issues. I don't remember hearing or seeing ANYWHERE any semblance of Sarah or her family members thinking they are due anything: not praise and adoration, not wealth and fame, certainly not being persecuted for living their lives as normally as they can. We as citizens of Alaska and of the USA have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without harrassment.

anonymous

After reading many of these comments. I think they should have made "DELIVERANCE" in the valley not down south. Anyone got a spare banjo?

anonymous

Reminder: The guy rented a house. That's all he did.He hasn't followed anybody. He hasn't peeked in a window. He hasn't gone through anybody's mail. He hasn't been accused of anything dastardly, much less proven guilty. This is America. And all you freedom-loving Americans should support this guy's right to rent a house and write a book. And all you loud-mouthed, rootin'-tootin' Insiders (as opposed to Outsiders), are why people think Alaskans (and Texans) are uneducated, unfriendly, unChristian rednecks.

anonymous

Sarah Palin rants and poses for photos ... she posts (lame) articles on facebook ... she appears on FOX (where she is protected from those who seek the truth) ... she has somebody ghost write a book for her ... she does all this to get attention and when somebody takes notice and gives her attention she screams out to her cult member-like fans and convinces them that she has become a victim (again.)Only in America. I take that back. Only in Wasilla.

anonymous
anonymous

I love Sarah. The rest of the negative posters sopund like idiots.

anonymous
anonymous

Amazing how the liberals crowd these types of articles and wave the panic flag over something as simple as stating that the Palin's under LAW have a right to protect their home and property. You panic and pretend he's telling them to shoot the neighbor for no reason. This must've been linked on the Huffington post or something, seems like you've got your marching orders and are obeying in lockstep by trashing a rather middle of the road article on the matter.

anonymous
anonymous

Very irresponsible. You sir, are a moron. Now I fully understand the term "Valley Trash."

anonymous
anonymous

Palin must be worrying the media. Why else would they constantly pry into her life? She was "too dumb" to be VP, not like Biden...So what's up with the fear? Why the need to knock her down at every step?If she were so inconsequential why harp on her every move?

anonymous
anonymous

Some of the comments on here are totally laughable. We all have a right to privacy including the Palin family. If some weirdo moved in next door to gather information, my wife and I including my kids would have him regretting that decision within the first month. Unfortunately the Palins dont have that liberty.

anonymous
anonymous

I would be less concerned about what Joe can see.. and more concered about what he can hear.. I'm sure most sporting goods stores in Alaska sell a microphone that can hear the Palins conversations.. sure is illegal to use to spy on people in their homes.. but Joe's safe from search inside his home too, so pretty hard to catch.

anonymous
anonymous

Crash Cargo said, "Ted Powell above is spinning."Above? Does this mean that you've found a way to display these comments in the same order as they were posted? I've looked in vain for a button, link, or anything, to display the comments in chronological order. If you really meant "above" as in higher up on the screen, please let me know how you do it.As for the rest of your comment, please back it up with one or two examples in recent comments of anyone actually advocating physical violence against any of the Palins.

anonymous
anonymous

The ends justify the means. The left are so incredibly unhinged. I guess it is her fault now that she has a stalker? Typical liberal, blame the victim and idolize the stalker. The man could have moved to Wasilla, Alaska to almost any neighbornood, but to rent a house 15 feet from the Palin's is a bit over the top and I would consider it stalking or peeping tom like..

anonymous
anonymous

Actually humorous to see the Palinites, the apologists and her fan club kicking around the ole "political football" over those so called "liberals" always picking on poor Sarah....Plays right into the racket she has been running on the public ever since McCain pulled her out of obscurity, proping her up as some sort of viable vice presidential material. This woman cashing in big time with that claim to fame.

anonymous
anonymous

This neighbor is obvioulsy causing trouble. He moved there to make a scene. I hope he or his pals don't try to cross over. Shot guns make a big mess... So many states have the same gun/protection of home, property and person laws and that is a good thing. Remember to all of my ultra left anti gun nut friends...everyone is a liberal until they get mugged! I've never been mugged and arm myself leagally to prevent such problems and at the same time help to reduce crime and protect the weak.

anonymous
anonymous

If this was about Obama/Biden/Pelosi/Hillary/Schumer having some creep move in next door to them... you people would be howling at the moon until the "neighbor" was removed! BUT... because this is about Palin... no big deal!TYPICAL LIBS!

anonymous
anonymous

I am amazd that The Media is more interested in Sara Palin building a Fence in Alaska than they are about a band of Islamic Radicals buildin Nuclear Weapons in Iran.

anonymous
anonymous

Can you people not read. No threats were made to anyone directly. The writer here only states fact of Alaska Law. Maybe he was reminding Joe that if a Palin shows up peeking in his window at night he is allowed to protect himself as well. Come on people stop reading into this as a newspaper advocating violence. They are only stating Alaska Law.

anonymous
anonymous

Funny, the link to the Wasilla municipal code does not function on their city homepage....could it be that the heighth of the fence violates code? A politician of Palin's stature would not violate a hometown code, right? Definitely bringing the property value down.

anonymous
anonymous

Here in SC we also have self protection laws. Compare the murder and felon rate here and in Alaska with the States that have a majority of stupid liberals that follow the mother RATS over the cliff. God bless our TROOPS.

@BrutusPDeregulation is conservative economic dogma, and deregulation of the banks sent the global economy into a tailspin. Sorry if that's an uncomfortable thing for you to hear.I'm not "selling a nickle for ten cents". That's what the finance industry did to good people like you and me, aided by deregulation.Back on topic, if Palin doesn't like the limelight, perhaps she shouldn't seek it. And thinly-veiled threats have no place in newspapers. Not even on the OpEd page. It's an affront to journalism.

RK
RK

Do you so called journalists have no integrity or shame? You are calling for the murder of a man just because he rents a house next to a public figure. Has he threatened her in any way? The threat to her kids is purely conjuncture on the part of a woman who always uses her kids as a shield. Now newspapers are siding with the powerful against individuals. How about recommending a lynch mob guys? Just hang him high!

anonymous
anonymous

Hostility of "Liberals" and their "mainstream" media towards mainstream Americans is unbelievable!

anonymous
anonymous

Thank God for Alaska! We need a place to send the real nuts from the rest of the states! That anyone who purports to be a journalist would take up column inches to suggest that you should shoot an irritating neighbors only contributes to what the rest of us in real America already believe...you are all nuts! Sarah Palin belongs among you. She should stay there and don't invade our country again.

So all it takes are a few strategic knotholes. Are the using clear no knots wood> All Sarah needs is one or two knotholes. They might even meet eyeball to eyeball one night?

anonymous

Wow, I never realized how backwoods and redneck Alaskans are. Any excuse to use a gun, I guess. And really, who says "swimming hole" anymore? She literally has a hole in her backyard? I thought they were called pools.

anonymous
anonymous

great editioral... TILL THE LAST SENTENCE...Really, it just makes you sound like a made up, dressed up, faked up Alaskan.

anonymous
anonymous

LOL @ the people thinking that it is a death threat to remind the idiot of something that might save his life. Good on Sarah for building a fence, and too bad it has to come to that.

anonymous
anonymous

Sarah Pallin is putting up a fence on her property and somehow she is being criticized for it? Give me a break. It sounds as though some of these morons thinks that she should have all the walls removed from her residence for easy viewing. Since when is wanting some privacy equate to having something to hide? Somehow I think that if the shoe was on the other foot and someone you knew didn't like YOU moved in next door to write a book about YOU, you might consider putting up a fence too.

anonymous
anonymous

Jake, you seem to be suffering from Palin Derangement Syndrome. She didn't challenge the property owner's right to rent to whomever he/she wants. She exposed the motive of the man who rented to property next to hers because ultimately every American is entitled to reasonable levels of privacy and when there is someone 15ft away watching your every activity and possibly able to see through your windows (with the intension of writing it in a book), that is wrong. Liberals are so predictable, if this was a conservative wirter next door to a liberal, you'd be foaming at the mouth.

anonymous
anonymous

I'm glad Frontiersman wrote an article about this person, its a clear violation of privacy.I would feel that my privacy is being invaded because a writer who writes negatively about her then moves in NEXT DOOR, she is clearly being HARASSED!!!Some of these liberals who post thinking their writing from Alaska, and spelling the name of the town wrong in the first place, are just idiots and you know how liberals act, when they can't use someone else to cover up their actions? Clintons....you know, SESTACK.

anonymous
anonymous

Rather smart @$$ed, of you Frontiersman, very TIC. Are you going to publish any comments from the next door reporter? Now that you've got Alaska abuzz, let's dive into the rest of the story!

anonymous
anonymous

There are no threats in this editorial. The last line is for McGinnis as much as Palin. Both can protect their property and life if need be. Also there is no mention of guns either. Talk about reading between the lines. Wow. Most miss the point of the piece. Why does anyone, especially the national media care if she built a fence.

anonymous
anonymous

"deadly force"?It is apparent now that not only is Sarah Palin not ready for prime time and an intellectual and emotional flyweight but obviously the Frontiersman isn't either and seems to have more in common with a weekly shoppers rag rather than a real newspaper. You take the name of Frontiersman but certainly act in contrast to what exactly that word means historically in Alaska and the USA.

anonymous
anonymous

Since when did Liberals care about privacy? They're actually all about invasion of privacy. Remember these are SOCIALISTS that are knashing their teeth.Your business is their business, didn't you know that?

anonymous

Must be a slow news day Outside.

anonymous
anonymous

I guess it is Sarah's fault now that she has a stalker? Typical liberal, blame the victim and idolize the stalker. The only inciting of hatred going on is what McGinness and the rest of the Anti-Palin axis is trying to do to Sarah Palin and her family .

anonymous
anonymous

@Chauncey Labonza -- yes, it's all Bush's fault, gotcha. And the dread Republicans, and the "conservative economic dogma."Sheesh.Honestly, don't you liberal unconditional Dem-supporters ever get tired of the thin charade and the insipid phraseology?Really, reading your remark on the causality of the economic crisis -- who are you kidding? It's not even good BS. It reads like a weak attempt at shill propaganda; it comes across like a self-assured ignoramus trying to sell a nickel for ten cents.Maybe they'll buy it over at DailyKos.

anonymous
anonymous

Why would he need to actually move there simply to (allegedly) gather info for a book? It seems like he's trying to "create" an incident, perhaps for his next book?

anonymous
anonymous

It's fantastic to know that McGinnis is allowed to use deadly force to protect himself.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow, it sure is easy to stir up the Palin-haters. Really doesn't take much.Liberals are literally obsessed over this ex-governor.Dig some of the insipid, bile-filled comments here, the attempts to formulate scathing language about this woman whom libs would have everyone believe is "stupid."Directing venom at the "stupid" woman sure takes up a lot of liberals' already limited mental energies.

anonymous
anonymous

Looks like the moonbats are out in force. Zoning? Seriously, you people need to get out of the Northeast. It may come as a shock to you and offend your liberal sensitivities, but there are still places in America where a man or woman can do what they please with their property. If a stalker moved in next to me, my fence would be the least of his problems. God Bless America.

anonymous

We here in Florida also have the "Castle Doctrine" and have also expanded it to include that a person does not have to run away from someone intent on delivering harm to said person, and can actually defend ourselves. Imagine that! We can actually defend our families anywhere against criminials and bullies! And the criminials do take note of this. Good job Alaska!

anonymous

Ted Powell above is spinning. I have never heard more rage and hate against Palin, the candidate, than I did from Liberal Progressives... especially women. This little incident makes it possible for Left fantacists to reverse and obscure and demean the victim of this peeping tom. The Democrats have become the "Haters." Any little incident that can give them an opportunity to turn the issue away from their own vile filth is welcomed by them. Don't give them a handle.. Just smile and vote them out. Do not miss the next election.

anonymous

Who ever said "good fences make good neighbors". Think you could pass that along to Obama and the President of Mexico. Apparently they have never heard it! An Arizonian.

Elaine

If you hate Gov. Palin, that's one thing but to question her for building a fence on her property for her privacy. Come on, who you kidding? You'd do the exact same thing if some guy moved nex tdoor to you with the intent of writing trash about you and your family. Bunch of hypocrites on here.

anonymous
anonymous

Ths writer sounds like a whack job, and must be to do a book about Palin from right next door to her.

anonymous
anonymous

Endeavor. You said "Give me a break. She deserves it. " Where do you live. I don't like your attitude and certainly don't agree with your politics. I think I'll move in next door to you and write a book. Do you have a fence? If so, what are you hiding from? Liberal hiprocrisy disgusts me. Why are they so frightened of and angry with Palin? Could it be she speaks the truth?

anonymous
anonymous

Governor Palin only needs to get out of bed in the morning to get attacked, her home is her sanctuary. It’s the only place where she, Todd, Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, Trig and Tripp can get some peace of mind. It’s the place where they cook, clean, play, pray and, yes, mow the lawn, sometimes in shorts and a t-shirt. Every normal person understands that this place should be off limits to anyone, even to an “investigative journalist”. If McGinniss really felt the need to be close for his “research” has he ever heard of a hotel?

anonymous
anonymous

Seems Al and Tipper Gore are separated and their new house may be for sale soon. Perhaps McInnis could buy that one. The only way anyone ever heard of him was because he knocked Sarah Palin. But the more he knocks her, the more beloved she becomes with the American pulbic.

anonymous
anonymous

From cbs.com, they quoted the Frontiersman editor as saying the reference to DLP "was meant to be humorous". Sorry, I fail to see the humor.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow, what a sad, telling little cheap shot at the end of that piece, implying that McGinness is in danger of being shot for annoying your corrupt, dimwit hometown hero, Sarah. You're just embarrassing yourselves.

anonymous
anonymous

Ms. Palin is a whiney, publicity seeking leach. What is her chief complaint – someone she doesn’t like rented someone else’s house next door? Take up the issue with the land owner then, not the press. If you don’t like the land owners’ exercise of their private property rights - and their decision about who they rent their property to - then your option is to either rent it yourself or buy the property.

jim
jim

The man could have moved to Wasilla, Alaska to almost any neighbornood, but to rent a house 15 feet from the Palin's is a bit over the top and I would consider it stalking or peeping tom like.

anonymous

Maybe McGinniss moved to Wasilla to escape the high taxes in Mass. If he works in Alaska, no state income tax. He just came enjoy the State that Sarah helped in keeping taxes reasonable.

anonymous
anonymous

Why is Sarah so defensive? What is she hiding? Do all Alaskans treat their new neighbors so rudely?

anonymous
anonymous

Step on my property and see what happens.

anonymous
anonymous

To 'Deb' of Wasilla: Get a grip! If you believe that your town and it's residents have become the laughing stock of the lower 48....you must have an inferiority complex! Consider the source! All these came from the left wing, Palin hating, bomb throwing dishonest media! If you have such low self esteem you should think of moving to the left coast to join those hypocritical jerks!

anonymous
anonymous

Does he have survalence equipment ie unblocked scanners to pick up cell phoneconvesations, also code cracking programs if the Palins have WI FI.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow - all the Palin naysayers. Just wait till your president runs out of our money; much of what she has spoken on will become just as she said. BTW for all those liberals expressing faux outrage at the mention of the ramifications of trespassing in Alaska, why don't you come on down to Texas, we have even a more liberal (don't you just love the use of that word?) interpretation of the 2nd Amendment, and most Texas residents don't care if the left likes it or not.

anonymous
anonymous

Wasilla Frontiersman - you might just be liable if someone shoots someone for stealing or vandalizing property. You may want to double check the law before basically authorizing shooting someone.

anonymous
anonymous

I wonder if the house next to Al Gore is available to rent. I've always wanted to write a book.

anonymous
anonymous

Joe McGinness is exercising his basic rights as a citizen and a journalist. Journalists often make the rich, the powerful and the celebrated very uncomfortable, as they should. The First Amendment protects press freedom; it does not protect politicians from press scrutiny. The reaction in this post places the author squarely in the moral camp of Islamofascists who issue veiled threats when they object to cartoonists who make them uncomfortable.

anonymous
anonymous

If you hadn't already looked into building codes, you're not doing your jobs. But a lack of professionalism and objectivity from a paper that refers to "Outsiders" and contains thinly veiled threats isn't shocking.Palin is a public figure who seeks privacy only when it suits her. She puts herself in the spotlight, and the reality is that people write books about fear-mongering, simple minded kooks who make a living whipping other fear-mongering, simple-minded kooks into a froth.

anonymous
anonymous

Well, that cuts both ways, doesn't it? If Todd or any of Sarah's admirers goes onto McGinnis' property, or threatens him in any way, he can plug 'em and stuff 'em. That's the Alaska way, by crackey!

anonymous
anonymous

TEXAS also has "the castle doctrine". threaten life and property and get your head blown off. hadn't thought about our law for awhile but thought about it recently when the terrorist thug union, SIEU, stormed the front yard and front porch of a bank employee, while terrorising a child inside....i thought, hmmm, that won't happen in TEXAS. good for ALASKA.

anonymous
anonymous

I couldn't care less what happens to thatwriter jerk.

anonymous
anonymous

2nd comment: "...have yet to see any rebuttal. Not one. Why?" That's easy: Lefties are terrified to even read us. We read them and build our arguments using their own figures, refuting their perverse logic. But they scuttle past us, eyes averted lest they at some future time inadvertently quote us, allowing little commissars to deny tenure or revoke their ration cards.

anonymous
anonymous

Tell us what you consider a "strong" point? Was it how Sarah fears any sort of investigative reporting because the truth about her and her clan's narcissistic ambitions would drive her "real American" fan base spiraling? Was it the one where Sarah abandoned her post as governor to pursue her Fox News acting career?Or was it the one about how she's the only one reporting the truth on such trusted media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and "truthy" first person accounts of recent history?Give me a break. She deserves it.

anonymous
anonymous

Boy, I sure wish the people in the Lower 48 understood your reasoning! With the California / D.C. club running things, what used to common sense in now uncommon sense. We're hoping that by November, New Mexico passes a Castle Law.

anonymous
anonymous

The man has a right to rent a house without threats of violence. And, if a writer moved in next door to Barbara Boxer, I guarantee she would be an ADULT about it!. Grow up Wasilla!

anonymous
anonymous

It's no excuse, but this snarky stupid little blurbsounds a lot like the snarky stupid Palin. They perhaps should hope there's no gunfire by the Palins instead ofencouraging it? Is Everyone gun slingin' trash up there?

anonymous
anonymous

Does the new fence interfere with her ability to see Russia from her front door?

anonymous
anonymous

can someone advise ole Joe how to hang the flag properly?

anonymous
anonymous

There is just no arguing -- it is downright creepy and McGinness knows it. He did it with intent to make her uncomfortable and now that there is such an outrage, he is denying it. Even the Palin haters would hate it if they were in the same circumstances. I might have bought his book before but now I will NOT buy his book.

anonymous
anonymous

What does the law say about restraining orders?

anonymous
anonymous

I know of at least one other state that allows the use of deadly force to protect life and private property.... TEXAS., and there may be others. Seems to me that Sarah has asked to be noticed with her flitting around and giving talks all over the country. What has she got to hid other than maybe a feeling of guilt. I enjoy laughing at her antics, but would never take her seriously. God help us if she actually obtained a high political office.

anonymous

She should stay there and don't invade our country again.

anonymous
anonymous

If people would actully stop listening to the media they would see that Sarah Palin (2012!!!) is very intellegent. She has a right to build a fence for privacy. She is the voice of the future and if your not listening your stuck in the past mistakes and all. Sarah wrote a better book anyway. Go buy it! Learn the truth! Go Sarah Go!!!

anonymous
anonymous

Creepy stalker. Try that stuff in Brooklyn and see what happens.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow... I think I'm glad I live "Outside." How creepy too that that word is capitalized. Reads like I imagine cult literature would. Or third-tier sci-fi about a planet in deep space whose inhabitants are wary of outsiders who don't shoot wild droids from helicopters. (I'm sure everyone in Wasilla doesn't buy this type of boneheaded garbage, btw, in the same way so many New Yorkers are vaguely embarrassed by our local organ if journalistic excellence, the New York Post. There are boneheads everywhere.)

anonymous
anonymous

Perhaps Ann Coulter should move in next door to Louis Farrakan or maybe Rahm Emmanuel. Oh that’s right! Those guys have “personal security” at their homes complete with guns and dark glasses! And the Palins are paranoid whiners? REALLY?

anonymous
anonymous

Joe McGinnis is a creepy stalker. He is going to be lucky to spend five months in Wasilla without getting his nose broken. Gee, did I just say that? Of course, I'm kidding. Joe is such a kidder; he'll understand.

anonymous
anonymous

At least McGinnis didn't need a ghostwriter for his book.

anonymous
anonymous

Who wrote this piece of pandering dribble? This is the worst piece of yellow journalizm I've ever read.

anonymous
anonymous

The Palin's better make sure this creep doesn't use one of those listening devices like they use at sporting events. He could hear everything they say from inside his house and they wouldn't know until it was released to the world!!

anonymous
anonymous

Once again the left is showing its contempt for anyone that isn't liberal, of course the Palins want privacy, and of course the left refuses to give them any. As to the reminder of the law allowing lethal force, I wish more states had that law, the ones that do usually have much lower crime rates, and politer people.

anonymous
anonymous

There are civil codes that protect neighborhoods from over-high fences. They usually make for bad neighbors. Is there a code in Wasilla? Please answer in comment.

Progressives are angry that every attempt they make to trash Sarah comes back to hit them in the face. The elitists are used to being able to destroy anyone not in the club by trashing them. Her resiliancy is inspiring and uplifting to those of us who are also not in the club. They fear her for good reason, just as they feared Ronald Reagan. They should be more afraid of their elitist President showing his ineptitude almost daily.

anonymous
anonymous

I see Wasilla continues to be the focal point of the Liberal/Progressive wack job universe. Just mention the name Palin and they start foaming at the mouth. Isn't there a rabies law in Alaska??So whatever you're doing Sarah, it's working. Guess you're a 'Pied Piper', show up and the rats will follow. You could start an initiative having all progressives to the vet's for shots.Keep it up Sarah, when they bother you the rest of us alone.

anonymous
anonymous

When Sarah decided to run for Vice President, she was the one to put her children in the spotlight. Now that it is not in her best interest, she has to raise a stink. Joe McGinnis got a sweet deal on the rental, who of us could pass that deal up? And shame on the paper to put that "Deadly Force" comment at the end of the article. Ugh!!!

anonymous
anonymous

I knew the libs would get intimidated by the last line. That is hilarious and I commend the paper for it. If stating the law creates fear in you, then you are in the wrong country. I hear Mexico does not allow citizens to carry guns and might be a better fit for you.

anonymous
anonymous

I have read "Going to Extremes"This guy is no writer. I know well the locale he described in his novel, and McGinnis's novel does exaggerate and distort it. And it's poorly written to boot.

anonymous
anonymous

So you can use deadly force to protect your property. Lots of states have this on the book, thankfully, my state is one of them. Check the crime figures. States that allow people legal protection to protect their family and property while in their own him with deadly force have lower crime rates. Stats don't lie. Meanwhile, Detroit, Chicago, and DC are some of the most violent cities in American... which very strong gun control.

anonymous
anonymous

I really like Sarah... but I think the editor did her (and the Tea Party movement) no favors with that "deadly force" remark. After all, the Left is clearly salivating for any shred of "proof" that the Tea Party is essentially a violent organization.

anonymous
anonymous

I loved this article and the last sentence! Joe McGuiness is a sad, sorry little man, who obviously is fascinated with a happy, well adjusted, strong, intelligent Alaskan with a moral compass..how fascinatingly alien that all must seem to him...

anonymous
anonymous

The writer is creepy to live next door and anyone in their "right" mind would object, then know that all one can do is exercise their rights: build a permitted fence, arm for unwanted intruders, relax within the privacy of your yard with hired security personnel watching out for your interests (assuming such security went through a screening process). Motto: check and verify and arm yourself accordingly. After all, you aren't paranoid if someone really is out to get you.

anonymous
anonymous

Like Dracula's daytime protectors, the Liberal Press is overdrive to get Ms. Palin-Van Helsing and protect Obama. Their attacks on her remind me of the barrage Reagan took in 1976 even after he lost the primaries to Ford. The more they attack this woman, the more I'm intrigued by her.

anonymous
anonymous

Your insinuations are clear. Clear that you are wildly out of control.

anonymous
anonymous

So does Georgia. It's called the "Castle Clause" in state law. Also know as the "Castle Doctrine" and requires no retreat to save your live if you genually feel you're threatened. My wife took advantage of it and she's still alive today after our front door was crashed down at 11:00AM one Friday while she was home alone. It's the law in several states and I'd advise criminals to know which.

anonymous
anonymous

Palin Derangement Syndrom on parade. Some creep moves in next door to spy on the Palin family and somehow you hypocrites turn this around to fence codes? Amazing. Liberalism is truly a mental disorder.

anonymous

After reading what some of you people have to say you'd have to be a complete fool not to run out a put up your own fence. This country is full of some very petty and very pathetic people. It's her land and she's paying for it,everybody mind your own business.

Rusty

McGinnis may not have threatened life or property, but he's a known partisan hack. Irregardless, the Palins have every right to their privacy. Deal with it liberals.

anonymous
anonymous

I'm have the same thoughts as when celebrities bash the paparazzi- hey, you signed up for this. The public eye has it's perks ($$$) and it has a downside (loss of privacy). Now, if Sarah was a private person thrust into infamy by something out of her control-- then yeah, pity abounds. But she chose this life- and the consequences are her's to deal with.

anonymous

It seems to me that "Snot-Nosed Kid" is well-named. Yo, Kid, you might also try to match subject and verb when you write, even though that doesn't come up until the 4th grade.

anonymous
anonymous

Gee, and all this time I thought we lived in a free country. So Palin doesn't like her neighbor. Big deal.Renting a house is not a crime. But Palin uses everything that happens around her to get more publicity. Someone who seeks constant media attention shouldn't be surprised when she gets it. This is a big nothing -- just like her.Despicable excuse for a newspaper when you promote violence. Particularly over NOTHING. But isn't that the Palin way?

anonymous
anonymous

McGinnis's motives are clear: money and fame by riding on the coat tails of a family who he most assuredly is going to disparage. His audience for this is also clear: Extreme leftists.IIm not a fan of Palin, but she's not reacted or behaved in any way that is out of step or unreasonable. Now the author here I suspect is right wing like myself, and obviously get the slight jab at the end of his op-ed. It's called irony of situation, and simply meant to irritate the left. Worked like a charm. (lol)

This is a really well written opinion column in a respected newspaper! It's always nice to end a column with the kind of thuggish threat usually reserved for cartoonish gangsters in bad movies. Please secede, Alaska. The Lower 48 hates you. Literally, no one here in actual America likes you. No one. You make Texas look like a reasonable, intelligent place, full of decent interesting people.

anonymous

Almost all states have a law allowing the use of deadly force in the protection of life and property in some circumstances. Usually it is restricted to use against criminals who break and enter into homes with weapons or during the night.

I don't take issue with the idea(s) presented by the Editor, I just cringe at the ignorance in writing and lack of journalism elucidated ("to put forth", for those of you who went to school in AK (abbreviation for Alaska, not the "AL" that many of you believe it to be) by the letter as a whole. Horrible writing, abhorrent journalism. This newspaper is supposed to represent the intellectual beliefs of the Wasilla's residents. When it come to having a lucid thought there seems to be slim pickins out there in AL...

The Frontiersman is a rag . Who really cares what they think. Your 2 minuets of fame are over. I have live here 40 years. I read your paper once or twice. Enough to know I would not read it again. If I want news, the Frontiersman is the last place I would look. I took your comment to Joe as a threat. So do others. Palins=Hillbillies.

Now why didn't Joe move next door to the Obamas and talk to all Obama's friends and exposed Obama for the fraud that he is--a commie, marxist, socialist? Oh I forgot, Joe McGuiness is a commie, socialist, marxist himself like all the rest of the MSM media.

@Alicia G:"This editorial propagates the myth of the gun totin' Valley Redneck protecting property with "them there guns...'""There is a portion of Valley residents that are... educated individuals.... ...This article doesn't help our cause."You know what else doesn't help your cause Alicia? Dropping articles and pronouns and being unable to distinguish between "there" and "their" when mixing metaphors about location and possession, or claiming the mantle of "reasonable" while rising to defend a person of dubious character that has graduated to stalking.

Allow to to dispense with all the pleasantries and get right to the point. You leftists are OUT OF CONTROL and are determined to run EVERYTHING.Those of us who refuse to accept your "superiority" and oppression, are willing to get violent with you to make you stop. Interesting that the guy with the pen is seen as the threat to life and property.I defend this newspaper's right to publish whatever they wish, even a non-sequiter as is the case with the last paragraph here. Sounds like McGinnis is planning to behave himself and not impinge on the privacy of anyone, other than what he learns from people he talks to. Everyone has issues with their neighbors from time to time, and she's a public figure so it comes with the territory -- plus, just watch, a legitimate author is preferable to a paparazzo.

anonymous

The Palins should just move out until this creepy writer moves away. Given his creepy demeanor, I wouldn't put it past this clown to set up parabolic dishes to pick up their voices in their yard, or laser listening devices bouncing off their windows to listen in to the conversations going on in the privacy of their home. What was really telling about this guy, is what happened when a reporter tried to interview him, and he threatened to call the police. The Palins should definitely watch their kids around this spooky, creepy, individual, that's for certain.

We have the same law in Georgia. It's a good law, and we use it.

The Man
The Man

To those defending Joe McGinnis, and attacking Sara Palin, get a life. McGinnis this political Hack writer, is trying to make a name for himself, and stating he got the property next to the Palin was because " it was a great value" is like saying the Dutch brought Manhattan Island for 24 dollars in beads and trinkets because they like the view of the ocean from the banks of the Hudson River.Give me a break, McGinnis out to do one thing. And eveyone knows it.

anonymous

If a book writer that has previously written negative things about me, moved in next door with the obvious purpose of spying on me and my family, I would take that as a threat and respond accordingly - law or no law.

anonymous
anonymous

I've been a past fan of McGinnis - no more. When he said that he rented the particular house because he needed "something he could afford"..please, the man has had numerous best sellers - he rented the house because of it's location. He wanted to give his book more creditability then it will deserve. His ranting on MSNBC of Nazism speaks volumes. His complete defense was filled with hate - I'm appalled that the Wascilla population doesn't politely ostracize this vulgar, mean-spirited man as he interprets his negative image of your town.

McGinnis fits to a perfect stalker profile. The police should keep an eye on him. Mental problem on obsessing with a celebrity can be dangerous.

Deadly force.... yes dear God the pen is mightier than the sword. People who write for a living are dangerous. This article proves it. Scary folks and scary newspaper. I did not know you all got enough sun year round to produce red-necks up north. I have been to Wasilla and may never visit again for fear of being shot.

Why is it that we know more about Palin's children than we do about the Radical Marxist occupying the White House? The Liberal Media is thoroughly corrupt...

If Beck or Limabugh had moved in next to Obama's mansion in Chicago or his other mansion on the beach in Hawaii the left would be screaming for vengence. They would be foaming at the mouth, biting off their own limbs in fits of uncontrollabe rage, demanding blood and lynchings. They would demand total government control over who lives where. Nationalize housing! But now they want to put the Palins and their children at risk from this stalker. Amazing. The left hates the Palins and their children.

Quote: "Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."What do gun laws have to do with a fence? Maybe someone should notify Sara Palin and her family of that law as well? Funny how that works both ways...Talk about an ADD article that wouldn't even pass the scrutiny of Jr High composition.

anonymous

I am happy that Joe is doing this. I think that someone should be up there in Wasilla, talking to people that have known her for decades. We in the lower 48 need this.I live in a city, and I am offended that Palin implies i am not a "real american" because I don't live in "small town america". What kind of stupid alienating statement is that, for a politician with national prominence? So I would like to hear more from small town Wasilla and the "real" americans.

I live far away from Alaska but was priviledged to visit there on a business trip. I got a feel of the independence of your citizens and really appreciated it. I hope it never changes. McGinness is a total creep. If he cannot write a book without looking into their backyard then he has another motivatiion for writing it. Too bad the big media who are interested int this weren't as curious about Obama's background before election. Keep up the good work. We need more editorials like yours.

I guess this guy could even peep into her windows and some would suggest she is over the top to complain about it or that she should bake a cake or something! Personally, I don't care for many of our politicians, but this McGinniss seems over the top creepy to move in right next door. Writing a book about her does not mean he should be so weird as to move in next to her to get in on all the family's private gatherings. Sure it's legal, just creepy!

To John 2 who wrote, "The funniest thing about your comment is no one would know that Joe was even living next to her, nor would it be a story, if Sarah hadn't made it a story."This is called irrational liberal justification. The only thing that matters is Palin and her family know and feel harassed, and that is why the built the fense. What does others knowing have to do with that? What the heck are you talking about, you silly liberal?

"WASILLA, Alaska (AP) - A writer working on a book about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says he moved to her hometown to talk to her longtime acquaintances, not to spy on the family."If this is true why move next door knowing you would intentionally be harassing the family? More BS from McGinniss.

I'm not sure what kind of operation you're running out there in Wasilla, but I willsay this. There is no room for even the hint of violence, much less joking aroundabout it,in your paper.Mr. Mitchell's anonymous editorial is over the line, and you, as hiseditor need tostep up and take ownership of it.I certainly hope that in the future you will think twice about publishinganythingthat hints of inciting violence towards another person.

Whoa. Did anyone see the Today Interview of McGinniss, not only is is CREEPY, he is a certified NUT. I always saw his names on books and never knew what he was about. I do not. Ick. I will go out of my way to NOT buy his books.

Notice how the first attack of the liberals is to accused their opponents of being trash or inbred. This is apparently their way of trying to convince themselves that they are mentally superior. The national media have spent millions trying to make Sarah iook as bad as possible. I'm sure having a newspaper speak out in her defense infuriates the Big Boys. The 'Bama Cult (and some Republicans, too) are absolutely terrified of Sarah's ability to draw a crowd. So they will continue to do they best to destroy her--by whatever means necessary.

LOL @ those who have not read the actual state law that allows the use of deadly force to defend one's life and property. The law does not allow those eeeeeeeeeeeeevil tea-bagging extreme right-wing conservative redneck Palins to kill anybody who watches them from a nearby location. Geez, people... get a grip, get a life, and get a copy of the laws.

No surprise to see the ultimate busy bodies (ever meet a progressive who could mind their own business regarding freedom or property rights) having fits about a fence. Friend of foe of the Palins, I find it difficult to believe that people can't understand how creepy and uncomfortable it would be to have an author, writing a hostile book about you, moving in next door where he can spy on you and your family. Are we a nation that has lost our humanity? We are unable to see the plight of others?Mark

Nice threat there at the end of the article. Write about a political hack and devout coward / liar and you'll be shot as a result, huh? Palin is a dunce. Those who defend her are as well. We'll continue to point out how absurd your devotion to this devout coward is as long as it takes. Threaten us with violence all you want. All it shows is that you've lost and somewhere deep down, you already know it.

anonymous

Everybody calm down. McGinnis is nothing more than a hack writer who needs the publicity to draw attention to himself. He is a purveyor of pulp magazine articles and books. I am a nobody but would be concerned if he moved in next door to me. Like most typical liberals, he has a problem separating opinion from fact.

I'm glad I left Alaska, I have never seen such illiteracy, ignorance and veiled violence. Do we not live in a country where people can move about freely? Is Sarah Palin so neurotically paranoid that she fears a writer? Also, I doubt Robert Frost shares the view that "fences make good neighbors," nor would most people who actually read his poem.

The poster Kevin is exactly right. There is a huge double standard with how the national Media has treated Sarah Palin from day one.If Obama had received the same scrutiny she did, he would never have been elected.Imagine how the Media would be reacting if it were Nancy Peloozi being treated this way.

Well, we know a snotty liberal intruded on Sarah Palin's private email, liberal union members attacked a lone black conservative outside St Louis and sent him to the hospital, a liberal bit the finger off a elderly man who was protesting ObamaCare in Thousand Oaks California, and a liberal attacked a Republican woman and bloodied her escort in New Orleans, so...if I were in Wasilla and a liberal was snooping around my property, I'd be concerned for my saftey as well. As a Texan, I am familiar with just such a law. Naturally I assume that you were just cautioning Mr. McGinnis not to climb the Palin's 14 foot high fence lest he be mistaken for a moose. Or did you mean, "will no one rid me of this pesky fellow?"

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."Since McGinnis is not in any way designing to or inviting anyone to threaten the life or property of any Alaskan and does not have a history of violent criminality I will wager that broadcasting the above in public media constitutes an overt and legally provable threat to McGinnis.

Researching a subject for an upcoming book by getting close to it? Doesn't sound too far fetched to me. A newspaper that issues threats towards writers, that is so scary. Freedom of speech only when it suits our beliefs? I served my country, others died serving. We swore to protect and defend the Constitution. That editorial was an insult to our Constitution and all of those that have sworn to defend it. A great deal of shame to the writer is well deserved.

Sarah missed her chance to meet a "real" author. She could have been nicer and gotten some tips on how to write a book properly. I believe in her last book she was rather course to other people so why would she be upset with his writing? Seems she can dish it out but can't take it.

Someone in Wasilla please go to this idiot's house and show him how to properly display an American flag. (The Union {blue} is always to the left) Maybe that's why Gov Palin put up the fence in the first place. Who built the original fence? Legally, or at least traditionally, the support posts of a fence are on the side facing the property whose owners built the original fence. According to the photographs of the 'Pailing Wall' which I have seen, the original fence clearly belongs to the McGinniss rental, whose owner is legally entitled, also, to demand that that the 'Pailing Wall' addition be removed and be rebuilt (if Sour Palin so desires) on her own ill gotten property, also. Those same photographs would seem to indicate that Palin's backyard is a junk yard. Like her past.

Sarah Palin is a conservative and, therefore, fair game because there is a double-standard. What if the public figure we are discussing was Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-California)? The so-called 'feminist' groups would go wild. If a conservative blogger moved in next door and monitored her comings and goings 24/7 (perhaps even listening in on her conversations) we would never hear the end of it. Interesting how many times I see the very strong and valid point made regarding the hypocrisy of the Palin haters, and have yet to see any rebuttal. Not one. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN'T!! Most people were able to differentiate between Sarah and other Alaskans. Unfortunately, your editorial blurs the line since it resonates as representative of what residents believe. Your editorial was pig headed, threatening and in direct contrast to what most of us feel. Sarah Palin already has her own news outlet, i.e. Fox. She doesn't need yours. Stick to the facts, do your jobs, and quit embarrassing those of us who live in the area.

What no one seems to realize is the Palin's have effectively checkmated McGuiness. By 'outing' him he's lost the subtle advantage of being next door with an unspoken quid pro quo: 'Be nice to me or I'll trash you in my book.' Think that is far-fetched? Look to his own comments as the issue broke. To paraphrase, he was displeased that Palin put the focus on HIM stating that if the Palin's had just chatted with him, they 'could work something out.' What? And be on the wrong foot playing defense? No way!!!

deb
deb

This is absolutely disgusting. We already have Sarah to blame for making us the laughing stocks in the lower 48. I don't think it is necessary to show more stupidity. Were the last two sentences really necessary?

anonymous
anonymous

I also wonder how many inquiries the Today Show, ABC, MSNBC, etc. made into the Barack Obama's real estate dealing with Tony Rezko??? but a fence in Wascilla, oh can't get there fast enough to spin, twist, and print all those negative articles on Palin. The lame street media is disgusting, but we are no longer fooled with their lieing trash against the Palin family. I would of built the fence higher to keep that creep away from me and my family and friends. Go home to Mass. Joe.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow! reading the last sentence sounds threatening and with malice bordering on intent to inflict personal harm. I'm sure McGinniss has lawyers to give Palin a run for her money. This new neighbor has done nothing, the Palins fantasy life is a heartbreak, nothing positive ever comes other than empty words from Palin painting this picture perfect dysfunctional family. It's always personal. First it's the media, then she's employed by them, someone writes books, Palin writes (cough) a book. Palin is all airs hot air! Just really tired of her drama.

anonymous
anonymous

Thank you for what will most likely be the most honest reporting this next week. The Today Show and ABC, MSNBC, will twist & spin this story in one direction, as they suffer from Palin Derangement Syndrom. If one of their staff was stalked by a creep, their outlook would be different, but since it is a conservative woman.mother, that the lame street media normally trashes anyway, the liberals go crazy. By now we know their Alinsky tactics, and rally even more to the side of the Palins.

anonymous
anonymous

with all due respect, are you congenital idiots - or do you just play at it? seriously, how did they allow such morons to write editorials for the paper? that last sentence was one doozy. not only did it not logically follow from the rest of this lightweight - and poorly written - piece, but it's gratuitously offensive & threatening. hey, if the former governor and current flox commentator doesn't like her neighbor, maybe she ought to try and bake a cake, walk over and talk it over?

anonymous
anonymous

This is a "hit piece" in more ways than one.Shame on you Frontiersman! Shame on you!!

anonymous
anonymous

Cate- Where do you get this binocular story, in the pic on Facebook his back was to the camera. It wouldn't have mattered where he lived in Wasilla Sarah still would have come out with the stalking story, he followed my kids, I saw him in the grocery store etc. He is safest right next door, no-one would dare harm him there...HE HAS A RIGHT TO HIS PRIVACY TOO.

anonymous
anonymous

Sarah is always complaining about how folks are “out to get her“, but she’s the one who brings in on!!!! Can you say hypocrite….

anonymous
anonymous

And this is why residents of Wasilla are often referred to as "Valley Trash." Way to go, Frontiersman!

anonymous
anonymous

......useless info, come on people report “real” news. I think we have had enough of Palin and her tribe. There are more interesting stories in my neighborhood, like how the neighborhood boy offered his lawn mowing services with all $ donations to a local shelter….much better news.

anonymous
anonymous

What's sad is that most people outside of Wasilla figured Sarah Palin and her clan were not representative of the kind of folks one would come across in Wasilla. Now we know at least ONE other person in Wasilla is as dishonest and crazed as them. It was Sarah who called attention to the fence by posting a rant about it on facebook. It was Sarah who posted a photo of the neighbor - minding his own business, on his own porch.Sarah is not a victim. She's a scammer.

anonymous
anonymous

Did you hear that Joe? You can use deadly force to protect your life and property. Palin fans: you've been warned.

anonymous
anonymous

Every littlie hic-up of this woman'sexistance must be whined about on facebook, ditto 'fake news,' and on tothe national news. Mr. McGinniss is a well respected author and politicaljournalist; he's not there to catch a glimpse of Sarah in 'shorts and a tank top' (why did she need to mention what she was wearing on facebook?) norpeek at her young daughter. Why doesshe keep alluding to her daughters aspotential victims of such actions? Odd, just....odd.Sharon

anonymous
anonymous

Notice that CBS has picked up on this scandalous gossip hit. Lets say a bear dragged McGinniss off into the woods for a tasty meal. Once the bear figured out what he was eating he would probably gag and spit him out. The next thing we will hear from CBS is Palin was friends with the bear and the "ghost" author of the editorial.

Same thing over and over again: a man who is a nutty stalker is given a free pass by the liberal nutcases because he is, after all, stalking somebody they don't like so that makes it hunky dorey. Bunch of loons.

anonymous

Wow! I didn't know the Palins owned this newspaper. That's interesting information. I guess there are no real journalists in the Mat-Su Valley, you know, the kind who use facts to write the story and leave emotion out of it.

anonymous

Why bring President Obama into your rants here this is about the palins and their paranoid ways, nothing to do with Obama.Sorry but she is a half term governor who let, apparently, her husband run the state.Than Quit to make money giving speeches she repeats over and over with little changes for the particular audience LOL

anonymous

Who is really the stalker here and who is threatening who, with no name we can assume at least that it from a supporter and at worst a family member of the heaths or palins.Sorta sounds what papa heath might say and yes it does work both ways .JMO of course

anonymous
anonymous

Funny, the last 20 or so comments are very different from the first 50. They do have one thing in common, the same author. Are you that afraid of this author writing something that you don't agree with? Get over yourself and your paranoid ideas.

anonymous
anonymous

I see that national media outlets are now going after you. Whatever. Such idiots. With the state of journalism today, the Frontiersman is probably more credible than all of the major networks.

anonymous
anonymous

It is hilarious how Marxist trolls always try to feign sanctimonious outrage when rational debate eludes them. All that is needed to set them off, is a sentence in the Frontiersman reminding readers that the law allows one to use force in defense of life and property, which should be welcomed by all who have no intention of snooping, intruding or trespassing on their neighbor's property. Despite the fake outrage by Marxist trolls, such laws are not unique to Alaska but actually prevalent in many other states of the Union..

I would love to see a mental battle betwixt all of the Pro-Palin Troglodytes and all the Anti-Palin Naysayers. It could be like "Are You Smarter Than a 5th-Grader." It would be hard to figure out who would play the 5th graders though. PPT's get all antsy about every Anti-Palin comment like somebody is going to take away their birthday (It's all the media's fault! SHE would be so much better than OBAMA OMG!!), whilst APN's love to shove every garbled illiterate sentence Sister Sarah utters down the throats of anyone within earshot... Simply put: Divine Comedy.

anonymous
anonymous

OMG! That last sentence...what kind of a Rag is this? Does "Can I call ya Joe" have the same right to defending himself with deadly force? Or is that only a threat to him?Now I believe wasilla is the meth capital...

anonymous
anonymous

Shame! Shame! Shame!I see the author of this is not only lacking in the tradition of hospitality that requires that guests be treated with the greatest respect, he is engaged in possibly criminal activity of threatening and inciting to murder or riot. I hope the police in Wasilla have the courage to commence a criminal investigation.

Haha you leftist cockroaches just can't handle things when Sarah gets the upperhand on you kooks.Supersonic Sarah Palin is a sensational American success story. She is the People's Princess. She is sweeter than apple pie, prettier than the Western sky. She's destined to be POTUS. Get used to it.

Well, this editorial has made it nationally on CBS.Managing editor Tom Mitchell wrote this editorial, and says he doesn't think the last line is controversial, it's just "a statement of fact."Tom, with all due respect, I have no idea what was going through your head when you decided to write that last line, but it shows a lack of good judgment on your part and the Frontiersman.

Great op-ed. I wonder how many inquiries the Today Show made into Barack Obama's real estate affairs with Tony Rezko? But they're interested in Sarah Palin's fence?Sickly funny.

"McGinnis also wrote last year a fairly scathing article for Portfolio magazine — which no longer exists — about Palin’s plans, or not, for a gas pipeline."The article still exists as does the portfolio.com website. American City Business Journals took over the website from its sister company,Conde Nast, when publication of the monthly magazine stopped. I can't leave a link here but you find the article by googling:Governor Palins Big Energy Battles

What would be the reaction if this stalker moved in next door to Obama to harass him and write a hate book?A creep that has been stalking her for 2 yrs. What would be the reaction if this creep McGinniss had said:"I'm not intending to write a salacious book about Obama's sex life. But if it's true, I'll find out."That is what he said about Sarah Palin. One more lying hate book 2 throw on the pile with the other 25books and it won't be the last hate book.

Are you really suggesting that Joe M. watch his back for people who might shoot him because he is writing about Palin? Do you give this same advice to your own writers? If not, why not? Certainly they write articles that make people mad enough to want to do them harm. Unless you print a retraction, one must assume that you accept the fact that your writers face grave, personal danger when they walk on private property or threaten people by asking questions in the course of doing their job at the Frontiersman.

Its McGinniss who decided to come to Wasilla to intentionally stalk the Palin's, not the other way around.

Cate
Cate

Interesting how many people didn't bother to note this piece is an editorial, not news. It is not unexpected for a local newspaper to be supportive of a local politician. And the facts would seem to indicate McGinnis's moving next door was not as benign as he, in the recent interview would have us believe. Nice people don't watch their neighbors with binoculars

anonymous
anonymous

This guy is a stalker, no doubt. None of us would like it if someone who has a history of this sort of thing moved next door. ( He tried to pay $ 60,000.00 to have dinner with her.) Given who she is and who she may become the state should probably move McGinnis out of there ( executive order ).

anonymous
anonymous

Today show and ABC should start to pay less attention to Gov. Palin's fence and way more attention to the disaster in the White House. They're so useless.McGuiniss is a creepy lowlife and a stalker. The Palins were too nice in how they reacted to this. Thanks for including that sentence...

anonymous

The guy moved there for a purpose. How many other politicians do you know if that have writer move in NEXT door just to gain info on how you live. He didn't come for a friendly visit. Why does the Today Show or ABC care?

anonymous
anonymous

Good article. Joe McGinniss has an evil, disgusting mission, to project himself as an innocent person. He is not fooling any decent, honest, respectful person as we know his long history of following Mrs. Palin around on her book tour, bidding over $60,000 to dine with her, he is associated with known bloggers who dailey blog lies about the Palin Family. So you see, Joe, no one believes you. But the Munger guy likes you.

jim
jim

First, McGinniss showed up at one of Palin's book signings in Florida. Then, he tried to secretly win an a charity auction on ebay - he bid over $60,000 for a dinner with Palin .Next, he goes to AK to do "research" for this book and shows up at Palin's house unannounced under the pretext of getting her to sign a book for him .- Palin wasn't home, but he talked to TrackHe has written several Palin hit pieces over the past year and a half. Now, he rents the house next door to her.

anonymous
anonymous

Good and honest article...The pro liberal ABC and Today Show are foaming at the mouth to get to Wascilla and find extreme liberal Palin haters to do unhonest reporting. They are called Lame Street Media for a reason. Plus Joe McGinniss is known for writing only negative remarks on Palin and his associates do the same, just one big pack of haters.

jim
jim

Joe McGinniss has written a book about a year traveling through Alaska published in 1980 and is currently writing an anti-Palin book due out next year. He has written several Palin hit pieces over the past year and a half. He wrote a piece for the no longer existent Conde Nast's Portfolio. This piece is full of quotes from noted Palin detractors. The false claims made in this piece regarding McGinniss's assertions have been debunked.

jim
jim

If Joe McGinniss wanted to write a book, he could certainly do that without moving in next door to the Palins. In fact, it’s hard to figure what Joe McGinniss would learn from that kind of physical proximity that has anything to do with politics or activism that couldn’t be learned through regular research and footwork.

anonymous
anonymous

Good for The Palin Family, their actions were correct and swift.. the failed McGinniss is no victim, his intentions are evil and if you read his entire stalking history of Mrs. Palin, there would be an outcry to defend the Palin family. Would you want your children to vist the Palin family if you fully knew the weird Joe was 12 feet away within watching and hearing distance???

anonymous
anonymous

Great article..and the lame street media (pro Obama) ABC, NBC can't wait to spin and twist and search out extrene Palin haters for their shows. McGinniss is up to no good, and decent, honest people see right thru him. Thank you for the Excellent article.

anonymous

In addition, Mr. McGinnis, has been cavalier in abetting the loss of freedom of the likes of Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald, by proposing a theory ofthe crime, he didn't believe, and ignoring the CID'smany errors or worse in judgement. Now the governor has raised questions about the President's ill advised policies, before and sincehe assumed office

anonymous
anonymous

The PDS of lib commenters to this article prevents them from being concerned for Palin about someone who stalks her but a throwaway line put in the article for humor sends them into a tizzy of indignation and concern for the stalker?

anonymous
anonymous

The fact is, there are already at least 50 books about Palin already in print or scheduled for release in the coming months. There are tens of thousands of articles. AP combed through 6,000 pages of Palin's emails, and came up with less than pocket lint. All McGinniss has to set his book apart is his willingness to openly spy on Palin, her family, and whoever visits their home. He is pathetic, creepy, and sleazy.

anonymous
anonymous

Well your publication certainly makes the point about clinging to guns and religion don't it.That way, you can threaten citizens with gun violence with no byline. How about that. Sounds like thuggery, the old wild west.i wish all you folks incluing the Palins who like to live like this stay the h*ll up there and leave the lower 48 alone.

My favorite news tidbit was the article on Politico quoting Sarah as saying she and Trig were going out to mow the lawn when she discovered her new neighbor fifteen feet away leering into her backyard, and how could she ever enjoy an outdoor adventure with her son? So instead she took a picture of the leerer (reading a book, his back turned to her) and posted it on Facebook. Now she can't go outside and her kids are in danger. Because of this picture? Is she afraid of retaliation for her actions?

anonymous

Great article, "Frontiersman". The lamestream media is totally captivated by Sarah Palin's uncanny charisma.

anonymous

In the last paragraph the Frontiersman reminds us all of the law, and all the Leftists go unhinged over that. This is not at all surprising because liberals have always been offended by the law of the land, unless the land is question is Russia or Cuba. .

anonymous
anonymous

Mat-Su Frontiersman,You have shown once again how to draw traffic to a website by chumming the water for anti-Palin trolls. Just mention "Palin" and these creatures converge and work themselves into a frenzy. They can't help it; Palin lives inside their heads, even though they insist haughtily that "Palin's 15 minutes is over".

PT
PT

What, he can't write a book unless he's right next door to his subject? Very strange indeed. Kind of makes you wonder how much he paid for his home that just "happens" to be next to the Palins. Oh, what a coincidence, eh McGinnis? Checking to see how many times Levi visits his child? You'll die of old age holding the binoculars waiting for that to happen.

anonymous
anonymous

The Frontiersman should be ashamed. This editorial, because of the last sentence, would never be printed in a reputable paper. McGinniss has the right and freedom--as Palin so often talks about("Don't ya love your freedoms?") to live wherever he chooses.

anonymous
anonymous

Hah!Great piece... that stalker should be locked up. The media needs to get over Palin (and Bush/Cheney) and start paying attention to the guy who's actually president now.

anonymous
anonymous

One would think when publishing an editorial about a well-known author who has been in the news lately, that a newspaper would at least get the spelling of his name correct. Even that appears to be beyond the ability of this particular publication.Unfortunately, that is the least of the problems with this editorial. It reads like a passive-aggressive rant that makes little sense until you get to the last sentence. If this is what passes for journalism in the Valley, no wonder people there have the reputation that they do. It's appalling, to say the least.

anonymous

Please be advised that some lefty blog probably got a hold of your article and linked it, thereby leading to their readers coming over here to spew their garbage. Thank you.

Let see someone is hung in effigy iin W. Hollywood, their church is set on fire, thereare ridiculous allegations about her youngestchild's parentage, her fidelity, her integrity,Mr. McGuiness seems to have made commoncause with the source of such trash, he haslied about the operations of DNR Department, and as they have pointed out, his earlier work is subject to interpretation as to it's veracity. An editorial is unsigned, an op ed is not, one would think those who ask these sorts of questions would know such basic facts

anonymous

After reading the comments on this article I guess PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) is real and becoming an epidemic. Get a life people. If someone trying to dig up dirt about you moved next door you'd build a fence too.

anonymous

Obviously, the line should've read:"Finally, those who'ree fond of the mentally unstable and psychotically paranoid Sarah Palin might remind her (if she doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law allowing the use of deadly force in protection of life and property, regardless of the perps psychological state."Overwhelmingly, people have sympathy for McGinniss, and repulsion for Palin and the haplessly unprofessional Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.Contrarily, the Frontiersman's given a passing national story some real legs. They've turned a page-10 news blip into a front page story, aiding and abetting Palin's faltering integrity.Congrats!

anonymous
anonymous

Is the Frontiersmen issuing a violent threat to Joe McGinniss? I sure hope Joe calls the FBI to investigate your editorial staff.

anonymous
anonymous

Palin campaigned and allowed words of violence against Obama to stand; her daughter's custody case brought threats of violence to the judges on her Facebook posts, then healthcare brought threats to politicians who voted "yes" for the bill, prayers for Obama's wife to become a widow and his children fatherless are allowed to stand and now threats to McGinniss' go unanswered. Her silence on all of the above on her Facebook page is condoning the same. You're insinuating violence is justified yet McGinnis has done nothing illegal. Just who is acting despicably here? McGinniss or Palin??

anonymous
anonymous

I would like to thank you for expressing your lack of news interest in a fence being built, and your none too subtle astonishment that you needed to.

anonymous
anonymous

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."The Frontiersman more like a small town newsletter than an actual paper when the former mayor gets ink.

anonymous
anonymous

Being that McGinniss wrote a critically respected and in-depth book about Alaska, “Going to Extremes,” I"m sure he is very much aware of what the law allows in Alaska. So, are you advising McGinnis to buy a gun with that last sentence? Or, do you not know anything about Joe McGinnis? Or, is that an extremely poor attempt at humor? Whatever the case, this "article" is garbage.

anonymous
anonymous

"Somebody moves in next door expressly and specifically because they want to be next to YOU..."Somebody is sought out by the property owner and offered a really good deal on the rent, a lakefront house for, IIRC, $1500/month. Hard to refuse, even though it means that anybody coming by for a book interview might be seen by the neighbours.I had heard about palinbots before, but the last couple of days, here and elsewhere, has been a real eye-opener for me.

anonymous
anonymous

I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt; that you were giving a friendly reminder to Maginniss that trespassers to his rented property could be shot on sight. But upon re-reading, I'm not so sure. Just who has violated whose privacy by posting his picture on her facebook page, along with coded calls for violence against him?

anonymous
anonymous

Sarah brought this on by herself as usual. She has no one to blame about the MSM wanting to get interviews but herself and her obsession over sexual things regarding her family. As for the last sentence in this article, I am appalled that you would even *consider* writing it let alone actually doing it! Shame on you too!

anonymous
anonymous

Yeh, Serror how does it feel to have someone around that you don't want around. . . . . .we also know the only window on that side of your home appears to always have the blinds closed. . . . . . .

anonymous
anonymous

Somebody moves in next door, you go over and welcome them to the neighborhood. Somebody moves in next door expressly and specifically because they want to be next to YOU (and they've written negative/hostile things about you and your family)...that's called stalking. And yeah, you'd better believe that I'd be armed and quite concerned. But I guess there are those that would just assume that just because he moved next door, he won't trespass or look to take pictures. Right. (The guy is a loon!) And if it was happening to any of you, you'd be nervous too! Sheesh!!

anonymous
anonymous

Whew! You really stirred up the anti-Palin trolls with the last sentence of your story. By the way, in the short time I've been following your former governor, I've noticed that whenever she's gaining ground there is a higher percentage of trolls in the comments section of Palin stories. She must me gaining huge yardage with this one.

Who wrote that EDITORIAL opinion and why not sign their name?

anonymous

Are you serious? Who wrote this piece? How on earth did it get past the opinion editor? What kind of journalistic integrity did y'all learn in what school? Oh, maybe you went to the same schools where $arah got her "journalism" degree? There's absolutely no justification for that last sentence. It's just plain wrong. Joe McGinniss is a respected author doing legitimate research, while $arah is the psycho. $arah was the one who went nutso with her FB rant and Joe posted no photos of any Palins on the web... who posted his picture?? She's a piece of work!

Poor Sarah Palin, always the basketball player yet never the cheerleader. She just can't get over it and now looks for attention as a middle aged cheerleader for the tea baggers. Poor thing, she had to wait until she was 46 to be in the spotlight.

This editorial propagates the myth of the gun totin' Valley Redneck protecting property with "them there guns."There is a portion of Valley residents that are reasonable, educated individuals. By publishing this tome from an obvious right wing person you are painting us all with the same brush.Since Palin came to national recognition there are many of us that spend time trying to convince people that everyone in the Mat Su is not crazy. This article doesn't help our cause.

anonymous
anonymous

I would be angry and horrified if a stalker moved in next door to me or somebody I liked. But being a lib, I have no problem with it being done to Sarah Palin. Duhhhh.....(Hypocrisy at it's finest)

Wondering
Wondering

One of the articles mentioned that the Palin's decided not to purchase the house next door, for whatever reason. The landowner was within their rights to rent the property, which they did. The Palin's were within their rights to build a fence, and if they so choose could play soft music to protect their conversations. Remember, fences make good neighbors, let's hope all have a peaceful lazy summer. Don't the Palins go fishing in Bristol Bay each summer? I doubt that the next setnet site is for rent in that part of the world.

anonymous
anonymous

Why exactly does Mr. McGinnis need to be reminded of this "law that allows Alaskans to use deadly force in protection of life and property"? Do you have information that he poses a threat to anyone in the Palin family? Have you gone to the authorities with this information? If there is "unanimous consensus" in your newsroom that no one cares about the Palins building a fence for more privacy, then what exactly is the point of this editorial? Why would you issue a warning to Mr. McGinnis that he needs to watch his step or else?

anonymous
anonymous

Sounds to me like the Frontiersman is advocating violence. To say I'm horrified, wouldn't do justice to how I'm feeling right now. What editor allowed this "editorial" to go through to print? Why print a such a biased article, complete with a threat, and leave out the byline? Aren't you proud of the author's work? Please identify the individual who wrote this hit piece. They deserve to be recognized. If anything happens to Joe the Neighbor, his blood is on your hands.

anonymous

Sarah's reaction looks like she's hiding something. Too bad she and Todd chose to build their house so close to a previously existing home. If Sarah wanted to make herself look stupid, paranoid and hostile, she did a good job with that fence. Dignified silence would have been better but why would she start now?I hope Mr. McGinniss doesn't need deadly force, but if Todd continues his attempt to bully him, I agree he is justified in protecting himself.

anonymous
anonymous

Wow...Cancel my subscription. Perhaps if enough of us do that, you'll think a bit more about publishing threatening editorials with no by lines. Shame on you Frontiersman. Perhaps your editor needs replacing, or perhaps we need to go back to no newspaper in the valley.

anonymous
anonymous

Can you please explain the last paragraph.

anonymous
anonymous

Use of deadly force works both ways. For Mr McGinniss in his own defense just as well as for the Alaskan Bermuda Triangle residing next door to him.I don't doubt it is an irritant to the Palin couple, but ....so what???

anonymous
anonymous

Nothing but attacks on the Palins and never anything good about what Obama has done. Fear of the Palins and intimidation makes for bad press. It's a shame that Obama hasn't really done anything good for the country, thus no news of his achievements. Sarah stands out while obama will be remembered merely as a bully.

anonymous
anonymous

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property." Wouldn't this law also be applicable to those who are fond of Sarah Palin?

anonymous
anonymous

So, you don't care huh? Then why the last sentence of this editorial? Are you trying to advise Joe that he would be warranted in exercising his use of the law should Todd come visiting Joe's legally rented property again? Let's remember who visited whom here, and who started the whole Facebook rant, and once again portrayed her children as potential sexual victims (AGAIN!!!).Or, are you encouraging Joe's own bloodshed at the hands of the Palin's? Too weird for words. With attitudes like this, I'll happily remain an "Outsider".

anonymous
anonymous

Sara is never home, only her babysitter remains caring for the kids in this family of such high family values, what a joke! I meant the Palins arevthe joke here, hypocrites!

anonymous
anonymous

Reading the comments on various sites over the last day or so, it's been interesting to note:Palin-critical commenters have expressed a lot of scorn and disapproval, but not hate, for Palin, and have not made any suggestions of physical violence.Palin-supporting commenters, in many cases, accuse others of "hating" her, buy into some really over-the-top allegations she's made, and in a disturbing number of cases advocate physical violence: e.g. "If Todd Palin broke this Voyeur's jaw, fully 50% or more of the American population would cheer him on."

anonymous
anonymous

Wow, really...? you would like to remind an author that Alaska law allows the use of deadly force? Just what is the Frontiersman saying or suggesting to the valley residents that are just unhinged enough to think that a local 'hero' just might be a tiny bit hypothetically in danger of a neighbor maybe seeing her out in public? It really truly sounds as though the general newsroom DOES care and is adopting the "I-don't-care-attitude" to get rid of any suggestion that you would LIKE someone to use deadly force. Frontiersman, you just lost another customer.

anonymous
anonymous

"Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis might remind him (if he doesn’t already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."THIS IS AN EDITORIAL OPINION?? Are you sure you want to go there?Because, of course, your apparent warning to Joe McGinniss and anyone who's supporting him WORKS BOTH WAYS -- and if anything happens TO Joe McGinniss -- anything at all -- the Palins and ALL their close friends, associates, cronies, and political allies become prime suspects.

anonymous
anonymous

Wasn't there a fence already in place? Does this woman not have curtains? If she hadn't completely used and irritated the property owner, they probably would have rented with less malice. But, what a knee jerk reaction to the situation. Sounds really presidential to me. What would $P do to the first country that surprised her? Nuke them?

Really

Why would you print something like that? Are you implying that a respected author with a national reputation might be thinking about physically attacking one of the Palins or maybe stealing one of their snow machines?Where does this concern come from? As far as I know Mr. McGinniss has no history of assaulting or stealing from anyone.

No author on this "opinion" piece? Just curious, because I would love to ask him or her what he/she means by the last 2 lines of this article. Is it meant to be a threat, or "friendly" warning, much like Palin's FB rant? To me, it's quite threatening.Shame on you Frontiersman and author of this piece.

Wow! That last line was an open threat to Joe McGinniss. Did the Palins commission your paper to deliver it to Joe? And what has Joe done to warrant such a paranoid reaction to him by the Palins? Is he a proclaimed offender, or pedophile, as Sarah Palin's Facebook entry insinuates? Why is this paranoia, and calling of national attention to somebody renting some property in Wasilla considered 'natural'?The editorial was just a delivery vehicle for the last line, which an open threat. A newspaper should not act like mafia pages to deliver threats to individuals.

There's a lot interest in this story down here in the lower 48, which evidently bewilders Alaskans. Nevertheless, a couple of the questions no one seems to be asking is where is the owner of the rental property and has anyone bothered to confirm that McGinniss has legitimately leased this property or why. Why has no one interviewed the owner????? The renter must have known that a hornets nest would be stirred up by renting to this guy and she should be considered fair game for reporters. Your thoughts?

The last sentence of this article is one of themost stupid things I have ever seen printed in a paper.I guess some one needs to remind you that Mr McGinnis has neither threatened Sweet Sarah's life or property.Maybe you need to tell Todd and Track aboutthis law.

Are there fence codes or not? Is what Sarah and Todd Palin built within those codes or not?Facts, just the facts. Let your readers decide on facts.
