WASILLA — Paint Nights with Sara, a local step-by-step art instruction studio, is hosting several classes this weekend, offering opportunities for laid-back creative expression for all experience levels.

“I just love seeing the surprise in people’s faces when they find out they can actually paint. It’s just really fulfilling and fun and makes us want to keep making designs,” Paint Nights with Sara owner, Sara Lynn Squartsoff-McKinley said.

This Sunday, local families and anyone interested in mythical creatures are invited to take the Paint With Me Unicorns class. Participants will utilize pre-stenciled unicorns during an adult-child duo project on a large canvas. This class is geared toward families with children ages five and older. The class costs $45 and starts at 1 p.m.

Those interested in painting a cozy fall scene onto wooden planks can take the Autumn Walk class later that day at 5 p.m. The class costs $50.

Squartsoff-McKinley said there’s a lot of festive fall and winter activities to look forward in the coming months.

“We have lots of fun seasonal stuff going on,” Squartsoff-McKinley said. “We’re moving to our busier time of the year as people are looking for things to do with less and less daylight.”

Every Monday, visitors can partake in $25 paint nights. Squartsoff-McKinley said they’ve added an even wider variety of classes and activities such as trivia and movie nights, adult finger paintings, and expanded watercolor courses.

“We always try to come up with new innovative ways to get people creative… Just a little bit for everybody,” Squartsoff-McKinley said.

All supplies for classes are included, but visitors are encouraged to wear good paint clothes or bring their own aprons.
