WASILLA — Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and there are plenty of events leading up to and on the day going on around the Valley. Below is a list of community events.

Sustain Campaign Musical Fundraising Event

On Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., the Mat-Su Orchestra is holding ‘Veterans Day Celebration,’ a musical fundraiser to support Valley Community for Recycling Solutions’ Sustain Campaign.

This event will be aided by local JROTC to honor veterans. On top of a custom made musical selection, there will be donation opportunities, a silent auction, bake sale and other activities with patriotic motives.

The event is at the Glenn Massay Theater and doors open early.

Veterans Day Ceremony hosted by Matanuska-Susitna College

The Mat-Su College is hosting its annual Veterans Day event on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Glenn Massay Theater to honor veteran and active duty men and women.

There will be a special recognition for World War II veterans residing in the Valley with special guest speakers such as retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Tom Spangler and Last Frontier Honor Flight President Randy Kimpton.

Wasilla High School JROTC will perform a POW/MIA Table ceremony and Colony High School will perform a JROTC Flag Folding Ceremony. Refreshments to follow.

Veterans Appreciation Breakfast hosted by Primrose Retirement Communities

The Wasilla Primrose Retirement Communities is holding a Veterans Appreciation Breakfast Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at their retirement community.

Primrose invites the public to join local veterans over a free homemade breakfast.

2019 Veterans Day ceremony hosted by Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc.

Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. is celebrating local veterans with the Quilts of Honor Foundation Monday at 11 a.m.

Veteran Appreciation Luncheon Hosted by Southcentral Foundation Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center

The Southcentral Foundation Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center is hosting a Veteran Appreciation Luncheon Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their center.

The free event open to the public is located in the main lobby of the Benteh Nuutah Valley Native Primary Care Center at 1001 Knik-Goose Bay Road Wasilla.

Veterans Day Early Bird Dinner hosted by American Legion Post 15

American Legion Post 15 is holding a Veterans Day Early Bird Dinner event at their post Monday. All 2020 members eat for free and it’s $12 for the general public.

American Legion Post 15 is located at 1550 S Mystic Cir, Palmer.

Sutton Veterans Day Celebration

On Monday there will be a veteran’s tribute at the Alpine Inn, starting at 6 p.m. There will be a flag ceremony by Sutton Boy Scout Troop/Pack #378 with dinner and a pie/dessert auction.

The Alpine Inn is located at Mile 61 Glenn Hwy, Sutton.
