PALMER — Wood and Wire Guitars and Music staff celebrated the grand opening of the new location off the Glenn Highway with the community Friday, June 10, offering food and live music throughout the day.

“We had a great turnout,” Wood and Wire owner Todd Farnsworth said.

Wood and Wire is a music supply and instruction store that was formerly run out of the plaza near the Three Bears gas station in downtown Palmer. Farnsworth said they outgrew that space and found an opportunity to get out of renting and own their own facility.

September marks the four-year anniversary of Wood and Wire. Farnsworth said that he’s come a long way from repairing guitars out of his garage.

“It’s been really cool to see everything grow, such a humble beginning,” Farnsworth said with a laugh.

This is Farnsworth’s first time running a small business. He said that he is grateful for all the mentorship and encouragement he’s received along the way.

“I’ve been pretty fortunate I think,” Farnsworth said.

Farnsworth said they currently have five instructors offering classes on many different types of instruments. He said the catchphrase at Wood and Wire is “all things strings.”

“We’ll repair it, sell it, or teach it,” Farnsworth said

Looking forward, Farnsworth aims to expand the number of workshops and other educational programs. He said they want to host more live music events and student recitals. He said they also want to open the venue to local bands so they can hone their skills.

“It’s just really cool to see people get excited about whatever they’re learning about,” Farnsworth said. “I knew there was a need for it. Music is important. I think it literally can save lives. That’s true with any art really. Music is just our thing.”

Wood and Wire is located at 3020 North Glenn Highway in Palmer. For more information, call 907-745-7457 or visit
