WASILLA — Alaska Republicans, on Monday, winnowed down their field of 11 candidates to replace Sen. Mike Dunleavy (R-Wasilla) in Senate District E, to three.
According to GOP state chairman Tuckerman Babcock, those choices then go to Governor Bill Walker for his selection, which then needs to be approved by Republicans in the state senate.
The three chosen were District 9 state house member George Rauscher, Willow resident Todd Smoldon and Sutton resident Tom Braund.
Other candidates included Tom Arts, Bob Bickel, Jim Colver, Eddie Grasser, Doyle Holmes, Randall Kowalke, Mike Showers and Vicki Wallner.
Dunleavy’s seat is up for election in the fall. The Wasilla Senator resigned from the senate to focus his energies on running for governor.
