Alaska State Troopers

As of now, the Valley has 36 Alaska State Troopers, 14 less than it had in 2005, according to Mayor Vern Halter, who also added that he had been informed that an adequate trooper number to police the borough was 85.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

October 24 at 9:17 p.m., AST arrested 41-year-old Tanya Steele of Wasilla for Assault 4 (DV) at a residence on Sprucewood Drive in Wasilla. Steele was taken to MPST without bail.

October 24 at 11:30 p.m., AST arrested 42-year-old Kimberly Egbert of Wasilla for Felony DUI. Troopers stopped Egbert’s white Ford Mustang near the Parks Highway and Alexander Drive in Wasilla for Equipment violations and determined Egbert was impaired. Egbert had two DUI convictions within the past 10 years. Egbert was also charged with refusal to provide a breath sample and taken to MSPT without bail.

October 25 at 12:46 a.m., AST arrested 35-year-old Derek Howard of Palmer after stopping Howard’s 1989 Ford Ranger for an equipment violation near the Old Glenn Highway and Sullivan Road. Howard had an outstanding arrest warrant with 90 days to serve on the O/C of Attempted Theft 2. Howard was taken to MSPT.

October 25 at 7:30 p.m., AST arrested 33-year-old Michael Masek of Willow in a 2006 Toyota sedan on the Parks Highway. Masek had two outstanding arrest warrants on the O/C of Vehicle Theft 2, Theft 2, and No Liability Insurance. Masek was taken to MSPT.

October 25 at 8:29 a.m., AST received a report of $500 in damage to the front security glass at a liquor store in Big Lake.

October 26 at 12:27 a.m., AST and WPD arrested a pair following a physical altercation at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Shoreline Drive in Wasilla. 26-year-old Ronald Pletnikoff of Wasilla had been driving a 1993 Ford van recklessly and was initially uncooperative with WPD and AST, but was taken into custody without incident for DUI. During the arrest of Pletnikoff, 31-year-old Darla Munguia of California ran back to the scene and struck a WPD officer. Munguia was arrested for Assault 4 on a Law Enforcement Officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Alcohol was a factor for both. Munguia was taken to MSPT on $500 bail and Pletnikoff was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

October 27 at 9:30 p.m., AST arrested 58-year-old Drew Schulz of Houston for DUI. Shulz rolled his vehicle near Pond Lily Lane and Hollywood Road in Big Lake and denied medical attention on scene. Shulz was taken to MSPT.

October 27 at 11:49 p.m., AST arrested 39-year-old Russel Andrews following a disturbance near Epping Court in Wasilla. Epping was taken to MSPT without bail and charged with Assault 4 (DV).

October 28 at 1:40 a.m., AST arrested 55-year-old Cynthia Werda-King of Wasilla for DUI on Pilgrim Road in Wasilla. Werda-King resisted arrest and was taken to MSPT.

October 28 at 6:32 p.m., AST received a report that sometime in the last week, someone had stolen items out of a storage container near King Arthur Road and No Name Hill Road in Houston.

October 28 at 11:40 p.m., AST arrested 54-year-old Mark Sikes of Wasilla for DUI and refusal to submit to a breath test after Sikes was found slumped over the wheel of a 2005 Dodge pickup near Vine Road and the Parks Highway in Wasilla. Sikes was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

October 29 at 12:43 a.m., AST arrested 22-year-old Samantha Lindsay of Palmer for DUI after Troopers came upon Lindsay’s blue 1998 GMC Sierra pickup being pulled out of the ditch near Stringfield Road in Palmer. Lindsay was taken to MSPT.

October 29 at 1:24 a.m., AST arrested 26-year-old Kevin McManus of Wasilla on an outstanding arrest warrant after McManus was stopped near Meadow Lakes Loop and Gentry Drive in Wasilla. McManus was taken to MSPT on $100 bail.

October 29 at 10:43 p.m., AST arrested 28-year-old Eric Thomas of Anchorage following an extended chase. AST spotted a stolen vehicle near the Parks Highway and Pittman Road and attempted to stop Thomas’ red Subaru Forester. Thomas fled, driving recklessly for about ten minutes and eventually exited the vehicle and took off on foot with two passengers in the vehicle. WPD assisted and K-9 Echo helped track footprints through the snow to a pizza delivery businesses across the Parks Highway near McCallister Drive in Wasilla. WPD notified AST that a vehicle began to drive away from the K-9 track, and the vehicle eventually crashed and the driver again fled on foot. Echo apprehended the suspect a short distance from the vehicle. Thomas had an outstanding $20,000 warrant in Anchorage on a probation violation on the O/C of Vehicle theft. A gun was found near the driver’s seat of the stolen Subaru. Thomas was charged with Vehicle Theft 1, Vehicle Theft By Receiving, two counts of Eluding, MIW 3, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, and the original warrant.

October 30 at 7:02 p.m., AST received a report that some time in the last month, someone broke into and stole items from a residence near Hollow Nook Drive in Wasilla.

October 30 at 8:11 p.m., AST arrested 47-year-old Jamin Jones of Big Lake following a traffic stop near Hollywood Road and Klutina Drive in Big Lake. Jones had an outstanding warrant and was taken to MSPT on $500 cash or corporate baila nd also received citations from the traffic stop.

October 30 at 8:59 p.m., AST received a report of over $1,500 in items stolen from a vehicle near Midtown Drive in Palmer.

October 31 at 1:15 a.m., AST arrested 23-year-old Destini Mcghie of Wasilla near East Fireweed road and East Gershmel Loop in Palmer on existing arrest warrants for FTA on the O/C of Theft 3 and Criminal Trespass 2. Mcghie was taken to MSPT won $500 bail.

PALMER POLICE DEPARTMENT

October 22, PPD arrested 18-year-old Myia Henry of Palmer for Assault 4 and Assault on a Police Officer and was taken to MSPT without bail.

October 24, PPD arrested 24-year-old Venny Perez of Wasilla on a $1,000 warrant for Fail to Comply with Conditions of Probation on the O/C of Theft 2. Perez was taken to MSPT.

October 26, 57-year-old Kathleen Hohn of Palmer was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice on an extraditable warrant out of Twin Falls, Idaho for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Hohn was taken to MPST without bail.

October 26, 44-year-old Shawna Dziedziak of Wasilla was arrested for DUI and taken to MSPT where she was released O/R.

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

October 21 at 3:13 a.m., WPD arrested Kyle Ray for Assault 4 (DV) on East Dellwood Street following a disturbance.

October 21 at 1:38 p.m., WPD received a report that a Rigid LED light bar had been stolen off of a vehicle parked at Tailgaters Bar & Grill on West Parks Highway.

October 22 at 12:18 p.m., WPD arrested Denis Belyayev for Assault 4 (DV) on North Yenlo Street.

October 22 at 6:26 p.m., WPD charged Robert Luzader II with Theft 4 after stealing $149.99 in merchandise from Target, and Luzader was trespassed from all Target properties for life.

October 22 at 7:51 p.m., WPD arrested Glen Watson for DUI and Refusal to provide a chemical test. Watson nearly struck a WPD vehicle at the intersection of the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and the Parks Highway, driving over a concrete median.

October 22 at 8:20 p.m., WPD arrested Skyler Bragg on an outstanding arrest warrant and was additionally charged with Criminal Trespassing 2 at Carrs on East Parks Highway after attempting to drink himself to death.

October 22 at 10:43 p.m., WPD arrested Ryan Peterson for probation violation on East Financial Drive. Peterson was pulled over for a traffic violation and his vehicle was searched at the request of the probation office. The vehicle search revealed drug related paraphernalia and Peterson was taken to MSPT.

October 23 at 9:01 p.m., WPD arrested Derek Heath for MICS 2 on South Clapp Street and West Aviation Avenue. Heath was pulled over for failing to dim high beam lights and Heath’s probation officer requested a search of the vehicle which subsequently turned up heroin. Heath was taken to MSPT.

October 24 at 7:17 a.m., WPD received a report of a counterfeit $100 passed at the Tesoro gas station at the intersection of the Parks Highway and the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

October 25 at 6:47 p.m., WPD arrested Johnnie Weber on East Parks Highway. Weber had two felony warrants and was additionally charged with MIWS 3, Eluding 1 and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Weber fled WPD and eventually crashed, and was taken to MSPT without bail.
