Alaska State Troopers

As of now, the Valley has 36 Alaska State Troopers, 14 less than it had in 2005, according to Mayor Vern Halter, who also added that he had been informed that an adequate trooper number to police the borough was 85.

All information reported in the Police Beat is obtained from police department press releases. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

May 1, AST arrested 35-year-old Nadine Drayton of Wasilla following a disturbance at a residence on Knik-Goose Bay Road in Wasilla. Drayton was taken to MSPT without bail on charges of Assault 4 (DV).

May 1 at 9:29 p.m., AST arrested 27-year-old Tyler Miller of Wasilla following an assault on Hollywood Road and Big Lake Road. MIller was taken to MSPT without bail on charges of Assault 4 (DV).

May 2 at 2:25 p.m., AST along with the PED arrested 34-year-old April Murray of Houston following a brief pursuit. Troopers had been attempting to contact Murray, who had multiple felony warrants and when AST and PED arrived, Murray refused to come out of the residence. Troopers obtained a search warrant and K9 Skippy found Murray hiding under a bed. Murray was taken to MSPT on $10,100 bail.

May 4, AST arrested 32-year-old Charissa Shockey of Wasilla who had been called in as a dangerous driver. Shockey was passed out in a 2010 Kia Optima after driving into the ditch and performed poorly on FST. Shockey was charged with DUI and Refusal to Provide to a Chemical Breath Test. Shockey additionally kicked a Trooper and was also charged with Assault 4. Shockey was taken to MSPT on $1,500 bail.

May 3 at 7:57 p.m., AST received a report of an assault on Serrano Drive in Wasilla and arrested 43-year-old Tyrone Sales of Wasilla for Assault 4 (DV). Sales was taken to MSPT without bail.

May 3 at 11:53 p.m., AST received a report of a dangerous driver who had driven into the ditch and arrested 26-year-old Izaak Probasco of Wasilla for DUI. Probasco was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

May 6 at 12:30 p.m., AST arrested 28-year-old Timothy Jones of Wasilla near the Parks Highway and Pittman Road in Wasilla. Jones was arrested on six outstanding arrest warrants for theft charges and taken to MSPT without bail.

BUREAU OF HIGHWAY PATROL

May 4 at 8:28 p.m., AST with the BHP responded to a fight in the parking lot of Floater’s Bar in Big Lake. Troopers determined that 36-year-old Scott Hafer of Wasilla refused to leave the property and was later arrested for DUI and Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample at the Mat-Su West Trooper post. Hafer’s DUI was a felony, as it was his third DUI offense. Hafer was taken to MSPT without bail.

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

April 29 at 12:03 a.m., WPD arrested Gilbert Rapp Jr., who was stopped on the Parks Highway and Alpine Street. Rapp Jr., blew a .178 BAC and was taken to MSPT on charges of DUI.

April 29 at 8:49 p.m., WPD issued a summons for Brooke Shalavin who had shoplifted $303 worth of merchandise from the Wasilla Fred Meyers. WPD issued the summons for Theft 3.

April 30 at 2:13 p.m., WPD contacted 25-year-old Elijah McCord and 20-year-old Jessica Stephens, both of Palmer following a theft report from Walmart. Stephens had attempted to steal a radio and both were in possession of drug paraphernalia. McCord had multiple outstanding arrest warrants and was taken to MSPT. McCord’s vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant application and investigation is ongoing.

April 30 at 7:00 p.m., WPD issued a summons to Steve Leffel for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Liability Insurance following a traffic stop at the intersection of the Parks Highway and the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.

May 1 at 2:12 a.m., WPD arrested Timothy Ritala who drove his motorcycle at 90 MPH past a stopped WPD patrol car. Ritala was taken to MSPT for DUI.

May 1 at 8:00 a.m., WPD charged Jody Scroggin of Wasilla with operating a vehicle without liability insurance through the DAO.

May 1 at 6:33 p.m., WPD issued a summons for Stefan Macdougall through the DAO on charges of driving with no motor vehicle liability insurance.

May 2 at 11:30 a.m., WPD forwarded charges of operating a vehicle without liability insurance to the DAO for Dana Dwyer of Wasilla.

May 2 at 10:48 p.m., WPD issued a summons for operating a vehicle without liability insurance to the DAO for Petro Usoltseff.

May 3 at 5:00 a.m., WPD issued a summons for operating a vehicle without liability insurance to the DAO for Michael Harmon.

PALMER POLICE DEPARTMENT

May 3, PPD arrested 36-year-old Jared Hart of Wasilla for Tampering with Physical Evidence. Hart was taken to MSPT without bail.

May 3, PPD arrested 28-year-old Marie Gamez of Palmer for Criminal Mischief 5 and Disorderly Conduct. Gamez was taken to MSPT without bail.

May 4, PPD arrested 24-year-old Britney Williams of Palmer for DUI. Williams was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

May 4, PPD arrested 47-year-old Stephanie Heflin-Ornquist of Palmer for DUI. Heflin-Ornquist was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

May 5, PPD arrested 28-year-old Ryan Manrique of Arizona for DUI and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. Manrique was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

May 5, PPD arrested 36-year-old Lindsay Messenger of Palmer for DUI. Messenger was taken to MSPT and released O/R.
