Alaska State Troopers

As of now, the Valley has 36 Alaska State Troopers, 14 less than it had in 2005, according to Mayor Vern Halter, who also added that he had been informed that an adequate trooper number to police the borough was 85.

All information reported in the Police Beat is obtained from police department press releases. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

ALASKA STATE TROOPERS

November 8 at 12:25 a.m., AST issued a summons to 27-year-old James Pistro of Big Lake for Criminal Trespass 1 and Attempted Theft 4. Pistro was found attempting to siphon fuel near Reliance Road in Wasilla. Pistro was allowed to leave the property.

November 7 at 2:14 p.m., AST received a report of a $35,000 Citation camper stolen from Valley RV Center in Palmer. Troopers located the camper on November 9 on Cattail Drive in Houston and arrested 29-year-old Rory Vail of Wasilla who was in possession of the stolen camper Vail was taken to MSPT without bail on charges of Theft 1.

November 7 at 11:08 p.m., AST received a report that sometime in the last week, someone broke into a storage shed near Hanna Circle in Wasilla and stole items.

November 8 at 7:30 p.m., AST arrested 29-year-old Zachary Noble of Wasilla near Helen Drive in Wasilla. Noble turned himself in on an outstanding arrest warrant and was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 8 at 11:31 p.m., Glennallen AST arrested 51-year-old Richard Riley for DUI in a black Ford Mustang near Mile 104 of the Old Richardson Highway. Riley was also VCOR on the O/C of attempted Sexual Assault 1, and was arrested and taken to the Glennallen post. Alcohol was a factor in this instance.

November 8 at 6:41 p.m., AST stopped 37-year-old Jerome Byrne of Wasilla who had an outstanding arrest warrant for the O/C of Theft 2. Byrne was taken to MSPT on $2,000 bail.

November 9, AST received a report of a red 2000 Chevy 1500 in Sutton that was stolen by 29-year-old Rory Vail, of Wasilla, who forged the title and registered the vehicle under his name at the DMV. Vail’s ankle monitor was tracked by the PED at the residence in Sutton and then at the Eagle River DMV on the following day. Vail and the truck were located on Cattail Drive in Houston and Vail was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 9 at 12:20 p.m., AST attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had been identified as dangerous by MATCOM in the Target parking lot. The driver, 36-year-old Jessica Rodman of Wasilla failed to stop at the direction of a peace officer and drove with a cancelled license. A passenger left the vehicle before it exited the lot, 26-year-old Lanycha Zimmer, of Palmer was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and 25-year-old Charles Leslie, of Palmer, was arrested for probation violation. All three were taken to MSPT.

November 9 at 7:10 p.m., Glennallen AST arrested 44-year-old Bernie Martin at a residence in Copper center for an active arrest warrant for FTA on the O/C of DUI and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. Martin was taken to the Glennallen Trooper post with $500 bail.

November 10 at 2:15 a.m., Glennallen AST arrested 35-year-old Vera Douglas on an active arrest warrant from October 17 for FTC with conditions of probation on the O/C of Felony DUI. Douglas was a passenger in a four-door sedan stopped near Mile 104 of the Old Richardson Highway, taken to the Glennallen Trooper post on $5,000 bail and alcohol was a factor.

November 10 at 5:30 a.m., AST forwarded charges of Assault 4 to the Palmer DAO after responding to a disturbance on West Knox Drive in Wasilla.

November 10 at 6:00 p.m., AST received a report that a Ram truck had been driven into a swamp on Seward Meridian Parkway in Wasilla. The driver, 41-year-old Jerome Walling of Wasilla, was charged with DUI and MIWS 4 and taken to MSPT.

November 10 at 11:05 p.m., AST received a report that someone stole a political sign from property near Mile 60 of the Glenn Highway.

November 10 at 11:45 p.m., AST arrested 24-year-old Zane Roberts of Wasilla for outstanding arrest warrants on the O/C of Theft 4 and Criminal Mischief after Troopers stopped a Ford Van in which Roberts was a passenger for a moving violation on Meadow Lakes Loop in Wasilla. Roberts was taken to MSPT.

November 10, AST arrested 39-year-old Joe Williams Jr., and 37-year-old Melissa Williams, both of Anchorage. Both were charged with MIWS 3, False Information, three counts of Theft 2, Vehicle Theft 1, and Burglary 1. Joe Williams was also charged with Assault 4 on a LEO, Resisting Arrest and VCOR. AST apprehended the pair after a call was made to AST from a residence off Greentree Street in Wasilla of two suspicious males walking through their property towards a storage business. Both were taken to MSPT without bail.

November 11 at 1:43 a.m., AST arrested 35-year-old Jason Gray of Wasilla on an outstanding parole warrant on the O/C of Burglary. Gray was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 11 at 3:50 a.m., AST arrested 36-year-old Christina Moore of Wasilla for DUI after Troopers responded to a report of a Jeep Cherokee in the meridian on Trunk Road near Duchess Drive in Palmer. Moore was taken to MSPT.

November 11 at 8:53 a.m., Troopers received a report from 37-year-old Lydia Ennis that her husband, 42-year-old Aaron Ennis, of Palmer, had called her on a satellite phone from a hunting trip in Lewis Bay on Knight Island. Aaron and his hunting partner had crossed a creek that became too high to cross over again and return to their base camp, where Ennis’ step-son was on the other side. Aaron called the USCG for assistance who sent a small boat from Valdez in for the rescue. Prior to USCG arrival, Aaron reported that a Good Samaritan boat had assisted he and his hunting partner in crossing the creek. The hunters elected to stay on the island and finish hunting.

November 11 at 2:45 p.m., AST arrested 30-year-old Jeannette Tyone of Copper Center for Assault 2 after responding to a disturbance at the McKinley Building apartments in Copper Center. Additionally, 27-year-old Brianna Sanford of Copper Center was also found intoxicated, VCOR for a prior arrest. Tyone and Sanford were taken into custody. November 11 at 3:00 p.m., AST issued a criminal citation to 22-year-old Daniel Delaney-Cucullu of Wasilla after attempting to steal a hand ax in his pants from 3 Bears on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Delaney-Cucullu and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Destini McGhie of Wasilla were trespassed from all 3 Bears locations.

November 11 at 6:41 p.m., AST responded to a report of four juveniles burglarizing a residence near Pettis Drive in Willow. One juvenile was arrested and taken to the DJJ facility in Palmer on charges of Burglary 1, Theft 2, Criminal Mischief 3, and MCA. Charges against the other three were forwarded to the DAO.

November 12 at 6:12 p.m., AST received a report of $1,200 in Dewalt power tools stolen from a truck on B Shannon Street in Wasilla.

November 11 at 7:35 p.m., AST received a report that items and vehicles were stolen from a property on Wilhelm Street in Houston. A green 1970 F-250 two-wheel drive truck without a tailgate was stolen, and a 1972 Ford F-250 4x4 was also stolen. Three rolling tool boxes, a Honda 2K generator, a Craftsman 6K generator, a Honda XR 80 mini bike, a drum set, 65 Harley-Davidson t-shirts, were also stolen.

November 12 at 11:13 p.m., AST received a report that someone who had broken into a residence near Moose Street in Wasilla and destroyed property.

November 12 at 11:51 p.m., AST arrested 25-year-old Ashley Glenn-Sowle of Big Lake who was a passenger in a 1995 Toyota pickup that was stopped near Big Lake Road for multiple equipment violations. Glenn-Sowle had an outstanding arrest warrant for FTC with conditions of probation on the O/C of DUI. Glenn-Sowle was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 13 at 8:07 p.m., AST arrested 22-year-old Makayla McMurtry of Wasilla on three outstanding warrants for MICS 2, Vehicle theft 1 in the amount of $1,000 cash, a misdemeanor warrant for arraignment on Theft 4 in the amount of $100 cash, a $250 VCOR warrant, and taken to MSPT.

ALASKA WILDLIFE TROOPERS

October 19, AWT cited 58-year-old Daniel Nelson of Palmer for operating a CMV without a CMV license while he was driving a 1989 tractor trailer on the Old Glenn Highway in Palmer.

PALMER POLICE DEPARTMENT

November 5, PPD forwarded charges to the DAO of MIWS 4 for 21-year-old Christopher Marsh of Palmer after a reported gunshot wound which occurred in Palmer.

November 6, PPD arrested 56-year-old Wallace Abernathy of Kotzebue for DUI. Abernathy was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

November 8, PPD arrested 29-year-old April Swearingen of Palmer for Criminal Mischief 4. Swearingen was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 8, PPD arrested 28-year-old Jarrod Freeman of Palmer for Assault 4 and Criminal Mischief 5. Freeman was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 9, PPD arrested 38-year-old Jason Vinson of Palmer for two counts of MIWS 3 and Assault 3. Vinson was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 9, PPD arrested 41-year-old Jose Rolon-Diaz of Palmer for Sexual Assault 2 and Sexual Abuse of a Minor 2. Rolon-Diaz was taken to MSPT without bail.

November 10, PPD arrested 36-year-old Mark Wellman of Palmer for Assault 4 and took him to MSPT on $500 bail.

WASILLA POLICE DEPARTMENT

November 2 at 11:55 p.m., WPD arrested Kendra Jackson for Criminal Trespassing 2 at Walmart.

November 3 at 1:18 a.m., WPD arrested Jimmy Morris Jr., on an outstanding arrest warrant and providing false information to police near walmart. Morris was taken to MSPT.

November 3 at 2:31 a.m., WPD arrested Murphy Moo for Assault 4 and Criminal Mischief 4 at a residence on North Lanny Wadkins Place. Moo was taken to MSPT.

November 4 at 1:09 a.m., WPD arrested Hermann Scanlan for DUI after responding to a single vehicle collision on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway at Financial Drive. Scanlan was taken to MSPT.

November 4 at 4:17 a.m., WPD discovered that someone had cut two locks and left the doors to a connex box wide open on West Mystery Avenue.

November 4 at 6:14 a.m., WPD received a report of counterfeit bills at McDonalds. Jessica Cole was charged with Forgery 1 through the DAO.

November 5 at 10:23 p.m., WPD pursued a vehicle that had appeared to be disabled on the Parks Highway and North Yenlo Street. The vehicle had been stolen out of Anchorage and was eventually stopped after running over spike strips laid by AST and driving into the ditch. Clayton Charlie was identified as the driver with an active arrest warrant, and was also charged with Eluding 1, Assault 3 and Harassment 1.

November 6 at 1:54 p.m., WPD received a report of counterfeit bills being passed at First National Bank.

November 6 at 11:40 p.m., WPD issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle without insurance and a citation for DWLR to Janet Stewart after conducting a traffic stop on the Parks Highway and Swanson Avenue.

November 7 at 12:54 a.m., WPD arrested Leslie Less for Trespassing 1 after responding to East Creekside Drive and discovering a male trying to pull on a power cord going into a residence. Lee was taken to MSPT.

November 7 at 5:03 a.m., WPD arrested Benjamin Sparrow who had broken into and stolen items from the MTR impound lot on East Centaur Avenue. Sparrow was VCOR from a current felony case and additionally charged with Criminal Trespass 1 and Theft 3 through the DAO. Sparrow was taken to MSPT.

November 7 at 6:44 p.m., WPD charged Andrew Pellham with Theft 4 through the DAO after Pellham was caught on Walmart surveillance footage fleeing to the parking lot and driving away with a cart full of items without paying.
