Alaska State Troopers

As of now, the Valley has 36 Alaska State Troopers, 14 less than it had in 2005, according to Mayor Vern Halter, who also added that he had been informed that an adequate trooper number to police the borough was 85.

All information reported in the Police Beat is obtained from police department press releases. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.


January 17 at 6:46 p.m., AST arrested 60-year-old James Fleshman on North Runyon Circle in Palmer after Fleshman drove his Hyundai into the ditch at GPRA and was subsequently towed out and drove home. Fleshman was arrested for DUI and taken to MSPT where he was released O/R.

January 17 at 8:36 a.m., AST recovered a black Volvo S40 stolen from Maplewood Drive in Big Lake near Waldal Circle in Wasilla at approximately 2:00 p.m. Nocol Jacques was arrested for Vehicle Theft 1 and two counts of Theft 2. Jaques was taken to MSPT without bail.

January 17 at 1:45 p.m., AST arrested 35-year-old Brandi Slover of Wasilla near Seldon Road and Tait Drive for outstanding warrants on the O/C of Criminal Trespass. Slover was taken to MSPT on $500 bail.

January 16 at 6:34 p.m., AST arrested 28-year-old Christopher Frank for Assault 4 (DV) following a disturbance on Rosehill Drive in Wasilla. Frank was taken to MSPT.

January 15 at 10:43 p.m., AST contacted 35-year-old James Leseman of Wasilla in the parking lot of Fred Meyer in Palmer for possession of methamphetamine. Leseman was issued a mandatory court appearance for a MICS 4 citation.

January 18 at 10:23 p.m., AST stopped 42-year-old Gary Filligame of Talkeetna for an equipment violation on mile 12 of Talkeetna Spur Road and discovered that Fillingame was under the influence of alcohol. Fillingame resisted arrest, but was arrested and taken to MSPT on DUI, Assault 4, and Resisting Arrest charges.

January 19 at 12:54 a.m., AST arrested 56-year-old Curtis Daboy of Palmer for DUI after Daboy drove past a blocked roadway on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Wagon Circle following a separate fatal motor vehicle accident. Daboy was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

January 18, AST arrested 32-year-old Karen Peters for Assault 4 and Criminal Mischief after causing damage to family members and property during a disturbance. Peters was taken to MSPT without bail.

January 8 at 2:30 a.m., AST responded to a theft in progress on lani Drive in Palmer. The suspects fled on an ATV and continued stealing from other vehicles before being confronted by a homeowner on Brooklyn Circle. One of the suspects pointed a handgun before the pair fled again. AST and PPD pursued them for several miles and arrested two 16-year-old males on Hemmer Road in Palmer with the assistance of WPD K-9 Echo. Police were able to recover four stolen firearms, a stolen ATV, and other items. The juveniles were taken to MSYF without bail.

January 20 at 1:56 p.m., AST in Glennallen arrested 21-year-old Isaiah Ewan for Assault 4 (DV), Interfering with the Report of a DV, Criminal Mischief 5 (DV), two counts of VCOR and cited for DWLR. Ewan was taken to the Glennallen Trooper post and later taken to MSPT.

January 20 at 6:33 p.m., AST arrested 53-year-old Craig Talbott of Wasilla for DUI. Talbott refused to submit a breath sample and was taken to MSPT for DUI and Refusal to submit for a chemical test of his breath and later released O/R.

January 20 at 3:15 a.m., AST arrested 45-year-old Maria Gilpin of Wasilla for DUI and MIWS 4 following a traffic stop on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Gilpin was taken to MSPT on $500 bail.

January 20 at 9:20 p.m., AST arrested 58-year-old Sanford Bowles of Big Lake for DUI on Wolverine Drive in Big Lake. Bowles also refused to submit to a breath test and was taken to MPST where he was released O/R.

January 20 at 11:37 p.m., AST arrested 40-year-old Jason Freeland of Palmer in a vehicle stolen out of Anchorage. Freeland was of the passengers and had an active $100 arrest warrant for FTA. Freeland was taken to MSPT and investigation on the stolen vehicle is ongoing.

January 20 at 10:59 p.m., AST issued a summons to 34-year-old Mikhail Andrushko of Wasilla after he had attempted to steal items from a business near Stanley Road and Tweed Court in Wasilla. Andrushko was issued summons for Theft and Criminal Trespass 1.

January 21 at 2:51 a.m., AST arrested 48-year-old Chad McGovern of Willow for DUI near the intersection of the Parks Highway and Hawk Lane in Houston. Before AST made contact with McGovern, he slowly rolled vehicle backward and collided with the AST vehicle. McGovern had a loaded firearm in the vehicle and was charged with MIWS 4 and DUI and taken to MSPT where he was released O/R.

January 21 at 5:19 p.m., AST received a report that a 2011 GMC single cab pickup with AK license plates JLV201 and a dark gray tailgate stole moose antlers, tools, a heater and oil tank from a detached garage on North Wolverine Road in Palmer. The estimated value of items stolen is $22,000 and the estimated damage is valued at $700. Investigation is ongoing.


January 17, PPD arrested 26-year-old Lanycha Zimmer of Palmer for Disorderly Conduct. Zimmer was taken to MSPT on $250 bail.

January 18, PPD arrested 36-year-old Jason Foster of Palmer for Assault 4 and VCOR. Foster was taken to MSPT without bail.

January 18, PPD arrested 26-year-old Morgan Hodsdon of Kenai for DUI. Hodsdon had an active warrant for FTA on the O/C of DUI and Resisting Arrest. Hodsdon was taken to MSPT on $750 bail.

January 18 PPD arrested 25-year-old Hunter Tamez of Palmer on a $500 contempt of court warrant for FTC with conditions of probation on the O/C of Assault (DV). Tamez was taken to MSPT.

January 18, PPD arrested 38-year-old Rosebud Sweeney of Palmer for Criminal Trespass 2. Sweeney was taken to MSPT and released O/R.

January 19, PPD arrested 59-year-old Robert Baublits of Palmer on a FTA warrant on the O/C of Assault 4 and Harassment 2. Baublits was taken to MSPT.

January 20, PPD arrested 20-year-old Evan Lambert of Palmer for Robbery 1, Assault 3, and Coercion. Lambert was taken to MSPT without bail.

January 20, PPD arrested 27-year-old Ariel Knutsen of Anchorage on two FTA warrants on the O/C of Reckless Endangerment and Theft 2. Knutsen was taken to MSPT.


January 4 at 1:00 a.m., WPD arrested Daniel Poe on Boundary Street for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Poe was taken to MSPT on charges of MIWS 3.

January 5 at 2:45 a.m., WPD arrested Bryan James on Chattaroy Circle for Criminal Trespass 2 (DV). James was taken to MSPT.

January 5 at 8:50 a.m., WPD arrested Steven Kershner at the Holiday Gas Station for possessing a firearm as a felon. Kershner was taken to MSPT for one count of MIWS 5 and two counts of VCOR.

January 6 at 9:30 p.m., WPD arrested Mike Duffey on Chatteroy for Assault 4 (DV). Duffey was taken to MSPT.

January 8 at 12:40 a.m., WPD stopped Joshua Mullenix on the Parks Highway for towing a trailer with no lights, license plate, safety chains, or wheel wells. Mullenix was driving with a suspended license, no insurance, an expired vehicle registration by 12 years and a trailer that had never been registered. Mullenix also was in possession of heroin and was issued a summons to Palmer Court for MICS 4, DWLR, expired registration and no proof of insurance. Mullenix’ vehicle was towed.

January 9 at 3:25 a.m., WPD responded to McDonalds for a report of a counterfeit $100 bill.

January 9 at 7:25 p.m., WPD responded to target where Blake Snyder was being held for shoplifting $449.97 of merchandise. Snyder had prior charges for Theft 2 and 3 and possessed a firearm that he failed to declare. Snyder was arrested for Theft 2 and MIWS 5 and taken to MSPT without bail.
