WASILLA — Glacier Surgical Associates is inviting local families in need to bring their middle school and high school students in for a free sports physical Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Glacier Surgical Associates owner and surgeon Dr. Shannon Gulley posted on her company’s Facebook page, inviting local families to ‘get ready for gameday.”

Gulley started this event three years ago to give back to the community by helping local sports parents since most insurance doesn’t cover sports physicals and the costs can add up, especially with bigger families.

She’s a huge advocate for sports and all the benefits students can reap from participating in them.

“We want them to have the opportunity to play. And if that’s one piece that we can take care of, we are happy to do that,” Gulley told the Frontiersman. “I think it molds them into who they are as people. I think it teaches them to win and lose and work hard, be on a team. There’s so many valuable things I think kids get from playing sports.”

The free event is at the Glacier Surgical Associates office in downtown Palmer, across the street from the Mat-Su Borough building.

Glacier Surgical Associates is partnering with associate providers like Dr. Jill Valerius from Now Health and Tyfanae Brinke, ANP with Empower Medical and Wellness to provide the physicals.

Families are asked to call 907-746-1520 to reserve a time slot for their students.
