WASILLA — The Mat-Su College is hosting the sixth annual Northrim Bank Lecture Series Feb. 12 within the Glenn Massay Theater.

Anchorage Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Bill Popp is this year’s keynote speaker. Popp will outline Alaska’s ever shifting economic landscape during his presentation “An Imperfect Look at the Anchorage and Matanuska-Susitna Borough Economies in 2020.”

This event is free and is open to the public. It starts February 12 at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and light refreshments to follow.

Bill Popp has 46 years of experience within Alaska’s private and public sectors. He’s been the president and CEO of the AEDC since 2007. He sets the strategic framework while marketing Anchorage and Alaska to companies and global industries. He also helps Alaskan businesses expand within Anchorage, across the state, to the Lower 48, and international markets.

Popp was a special assistant in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor’s office from 2002 to 2007 focused on oil and gas and mining policy before he joined AEDC. He served as an elected official for the Kenai Peninsula Borough from 1996 to 2002. He presided over the Kenai assembly as president in 2000.

Popp has over 25 years of private industry experience working for large national and regional companies. He was the project coordinator of the Challenger Learning Center for Alaska from 1996 to 2000. He also has experience as a small business owner.

Popp’s lecture is a chance to learn about the Valley and Anchorage’s economic futures and how they fit into the overall state economy.

The Glenn Massay Theater is located within the Mat-Su College campus. The address is 8295 East College Road, Palmer.
