One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening, according to the Alaska State Troopers. The deceased has been identified as Aaron Tolen, 37, of Wasilla.

AST responded to the report of a domestic disturbance of Bonaparte Avenue near Wasilla at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday. According to troopers, after Tolen was contacted by the responding officer, Tolen got into a physical altercation with the trooper.

“Back-up arrived and witnessed Tolen fighting with the trooper on the floor,” troopers said in an online dispatch posted Monday. “Tolen was ultimately shot by AST and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.”

Troopers involved in the shooting will be placed on 72-hour administrative leave, per department policy, according to troopers.
