MAT-SU — A sudden spread of burglaries and break-ins plagued the Mat-Su Valley over the weekend.
The Alaska State Troopers posted 11 separate instances on their daily dispatch of theft or break-in cases that remain under investigation. On May 31, AST received a report that someone had lent a small amount of money to a couple asking for food who had then stolen their wallet and charged $500 to a credit card. The names given by suspects to the complainant were 30-year-old Steven and 22-year-old Baylee. On June 2, seven separate instances were reported that are still under investigation. At 6:20 a.m., in Houston, someone fired a weapon during an argument on Meadowood Drive. AST received a report of a theft of $2,000 in items from Greensward Drive in Wasilla at 8:11 a.m. AST received a report of a theft from Marge Drive in Wasilla of $2,400 in items including a firearm. Sometime in the last month, $2,000 in items was stolen from a residence on Scatters Way in Wasilla, a commercial property was hit on the evening of June 3. AST received a report that someone had broken into a business on Machen Road and caused $7,000 in damages with an additional $7,000 in stolen property.
