Dorothy Joan (Nanninga) Sewell
Dorothy “Dottie” Joan (Nanninga) Sewell was born in Peoria, Illinois, on December 17, 1937, and passed in Palmer, Alaska, on December 27, 2020, aged 83. Dottie passed from small cell lung cancer.
She lived a full life, marrying and then divorcing Bill Bromley at a young age. Dottie then moved to Reno, NV where she met Johnie Jones while skydiving. They married and had two children, Zoelea Vey and Jerome Jones, all the while moving from one side of the USA to the other, ending up in Kodiak, Alaska, in 1976. Dottie and Johnie divorced and she moved to Eagle River, where she intended to raise her kids.
In 1980 Dottie started her career at the Municipality of Anchorage as an entry-level clerk, working her way up to Senior Accountant before she retired. During her career, she met and married Russell Sewell. After Russ passed in 2001, she moved to Palmer where she made many friends and enjoyed living close to her kids while researching her family genealogy.
Dottie was an avid and talented painter and she enjoyed her memberships with the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion. She was also a member of the Eastern Stars.
Dottie is preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Henrietta (Menhusen) Nanninga; her siblings, Robert, Conrad, Marvin, Irma, and Marilyn; and her three spouses.
Dottie is survived by her children; her brother, Gilbert Nanninga; her sister-in law, Jeannie Nanninga; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her grandchildren, Mickel, Rhiannon, and Cameron.
In lieu of donations or flowers, Dottie requests that her friends and family spend time with each other, lifting a glass in her memory and keeping their “I love yous” up-to-date.
Her ashes will be spread summer 2021 with Russ’s, and a BBQ celebration of life will follow.
