Genevieve (Godfrey) Schachle
Genevieve Schachle, 94, died peacefully in her sleep, December 27th.
Genevieve was from Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. She came to Anchorage on her honeymoon with her late husband, Lawrence, in 1951. In 1952 they started the Penn Jersey Drilling and ABC Pump & Well Supply Company, which is still in operation today.
Genevieve (Genny) loved and participated in many sports. She loved the outdoors, from hunting on their swamp buggy to four wheeling and snowmachine riding. Softball was a passion with her. She played for many years alongside her daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, and friends. She played second base thru the age of 73. She also loved bowling with all the ladies and playing cards with everyone.
She also loved baking her apple and pecan pies for the Willow Winter Carnival each year. She always made the best apple pies.
Genevieve was a very loving mother and family meant everything to her. She loved having her family and friends around her. She was a Registered Nurse when she first came to Alaska and worked in the ER at the Old Providence Hospital until she began having children. She spent her time raising her 10 children and running the business.
In 1983, Genevieve, along with her late husband, Lawrence, moved the business and their home to the Valley. After her husband died, she eventually built a home in Willow on Long Lake and moved there. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Willow and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla.
Surviving her are her children: Kathy (Pat) Griffin of Westfork, AR; Nancy (Craig) Seime of Big Lake; Theodore (Valerie) Schachle of Willow; Sarah Spicer of Palmer; Timothy (Darcy) Schachle, Thomas (Corinna) Schachle, Molly (Daniel) Piaskowski, and Virginia (Mike) Lachelt all of Wasilla. Genevieve Schachle is also survived by her sister, Gladys Carlson of Hesperia, CA, along with 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild with a few more on the way. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; two sons, Lawrence Jr. and Robert G. Schachle; mother, Hazel; father, Robert; brothers Harley, Robert E, George, and Jonathan; and sisters Jessie Kumpel and Emily Conklin.
A small family Christian Mass with Rosary is to be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla on January 8, 2021 @ 12:30 pm. Burial to be later in the spring with a large picnic gathering at that time. Funeral arrangements were made by Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to a charity of their choice.
