OBIT Krueger 07-14

Gloria Mary Krueger, 85, passed away July 9, 2017, at Mat Su Regional Hospital.  Gloria was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only daughter of Andrew and Mary Feil. Gloria married Wayne “Doc” Krueger while still in Wisconsin.  A few years into their marriage, they made the trek to Alaska in 1961 with five children and one on the way.  Gloria and Doc homesteaded on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass.  Gloria was the rock that kept the family fed and clothed.  Frozen diapers out on the line and the best-baked bread made daily in a wood burning oven were part of Gloria’s homestead routine.

As the children grew older, Gloria worked for Willow school and was able to ride the school bus to and from work.  She did babysitting for her neighbors and helped raise another generation of Hatcher Pass children.

Gloria was always a city girl out in the country.  Even in her 80s, she loved to shop and her daughters were often worn out trying to keep up with her at the mall.  When her health began to wane, she would say, “I need ALL my children.”  She dearly loved her family and they gave her great joy over the years.

Gloria was a member of the Living Church of God and her faith was central in her life.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mary Feil, her brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Armella Feil, her husband, Wayne Krueger and her infant son, Kenneth.  She is survived by her children: Michael (Lori), Terrance (Susan), Kathleen (Roy) Smithson, Steven,  Susan Joans, Mary (Doug) Masters, Peter, Gloria (Wade) Hart, Rebecca (Daniel) LeFrancois, and Wayne ‘Buddy'; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind her darling companion dog, Charlie. A celebration of life will be held Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. at Trailside Community Church in Anchorage.
