Hayden E. McClure
Hayden McClure of Palmer passed away on December 22, 2020, at age 73. He was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for treatment of chronic leukemia. After arriving at Mayo, it was found he had a very aggressive, incurable form of leukemia, which was related to the stem cell transplant he received in 2015. He was very grateful for the five enjoyable years the transplant afforded him.
Hayden was born in Gardner, MA, to Kenneth and Mary McClure. In 1969 he married Naomi Wescott of Moscow, PA. After living two years in Hayden’s hometown of Baldwinville, MA, the couple vacationed in 1971 in Alaska and moved in 1972 to their forever home in Palmer.
One of Hayden’s first jobs in Alaska was working for Vic Loyer doing construction around the Valley. He was a member of IBEW Local 1547 and began his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed his many friends at the Valley Hotel Restaurant and Jenski Automotive and could often be found in either place. He also enjoyed stopping by Ken Loyer’s shop to visit with Butch Loyer and other friends who showed up there. He enjoyed camping around Alaska and Canada with his wife and dear friends, Greg and Mary Ange.
He is survived by Naomi, his wife of 51 years; his brother Edward McClure (Linda) of Baldwinville, MA; his sister Mary Ann McClure of Orange, MA; his stepsister Sharon DiRico of Framingham, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George McClure.
