James (Jim) W. Riley
James (Jim) W. Riley, passed peacefully at home in Willow, November 9, 2021. Jim was born August 22, 1949 in Gettysburg PA, son of John Charles & Clara (Schachle) Riley. The family moved to Pensacola, FL founding S&R Egg Ranch in 1958, where Jim grew up with his 9 siblings, 11 cousins and 20,000 chickens. He shared many stories of farm life and the antics of 21 kids. An Alaskan resident for over 45 years, a real estate agent since 1983, broker & owner of J. Riley Realty Est. 1987. He was a graduate of Pensacola Catholic High and the University of West Florida, a US Air Force veteran stationed in Japan. He began S&R publishing while writing and publishing “Wilderness Trails”. Jim was affiliated with many organizations including Eklutna Community Council (past president), Anchorage Parking Authority, Triam Sports and he was instrumental in establishing Big Game Alaska (AWCC).
Jim enjoyed the outdoors, four wheeling with Piper, kayaking, snowmachine rides to the cabin, hiking, photography, capturing beauty from behind the lens. Always first was his love for family. He touched many lives in his truly loving and giving way, always ready to help a friend or stranger. Jim will be remembered for his infectious laughter, mischievous capers, that never-ending smile, his byline: We’re living in Paradise.
Beloved husband, brother & favorite uncle, Jim is survived by his wife, Roberta (Bobbi) Riley, furry companion, Piper; brothers, John, George, Leo, Mike; and sisters, Judy, Teresa, Sheila; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins of the Schachle and Riley families. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Joan and Mary.
A gathering in celebration of Jim’s life will be held December 4 at 2pm at 13704 N. Willow Lake Dr., Willow, AK 99688. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA, Food Bank of Alaska or charity of your choice.
