Marjorie Eugene Howard Blalock, age 91, died June 6, 2018 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. She requested that no service be performed, other than a private graveside service. Cremation was handled by Legacy Funeral Home. Mrs. Blalock was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her education at North Texas State College in Denton, Texas with a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics, with minors in Chemistry and English, in 1948. Her teaching career included employment in a Texas, Alaska, Guam, and West Africa. Marjorie came to Alaska in 1958, to join her husband, Keith Blalock, as members of the Southern Baptist Tentmakers, a laymen’s group that assisted in building and growth of churches. Her family lived in the Big Lake area for two years, then taught a year in Akutan. She also taught at Swanson Elementary School in Palmer, from 1965 until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, Marjorie earned a B.A. degree in Studio Art from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT. She taught numerous adult art classes in painting in Alaska, Montana, and Texas. Mrs. Blalock is survived by her husband, Keith of over 69 years; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Judy, Kelly and Janet of Alaska; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jeff Salisbury, of Montana, and Kim and Mark Fitch, of Nebraska. Mrs. Blalock is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blalock was preceded in death by her adopted father, Don Howard, and mother, Nell Price Howard Starr; sister, Virginia; brother, Harry.
