Roger Keith Smith
Roger Keith Smith, 75, died at home on the 3rd of January 2021.
He was born in Dragerton, Utah on November 21, 1945, to Howard and Verna Smith. Roger graduated from Lancaster High School, Lancaster, Missouri in 1964. After high school he went into the Army Corp of Engineers, where he served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. He was awarded the Sharpshooter Badge, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Roger wed his sweetheart Pernie Ruth of Downing, Missouri, in 1966. Daughter Coalette was born in March 1967 and daughter Jeanette was born in January 1970.
After the Army, Roger continued working as an Electrician throughout Missouri. When the family moved to Alaska, Roger became a certified Lineman and Journeyman. He later joined the IBEW and was able to retire from MEA at the age of 55.
In 1975, Roger returned to Alaska with his family. Roger enjoyed his memberships at the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and VFW. He also coached in the local MYAC basketball league for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Jack, and William; and his soul mate, Janie Pendergrass.
He is survived by his daughters, Coalette Watchus of Wasilla and Jeanette Smith of Palmer; his six grandchildren, Carl Smith, Hannah Langendorf, Alexis Beauchamp, Elizabeth Watchus, Sidney Watchus, and Emily Brooks; and his great grandchildren, Holden, Blair, Jane, and Annalise. Roger is also survived by his sister, Sharon Jeanette Frank, and many nieces and nephews.
