The Colony Knights boys and girls soccer squads were forced to settle for fifth-place finishes during the ASAA/First National Bank Division I State Soccer Championships in Anchorage.
West Anchorage edged Colony 2-1 in the boys third-place game. West Valley beat Colony 1-0 in the girls third-place game.
Service, which went on to win the state title, beat Colony 1-0 in the boys semifinals. Dimond, which won the girls title, beat the Knights 3-0 in the semifinals.
Eli Krozel scored in overtime to lift the Knights to a 3-2 win over the Wolverines during the boys quarterfinals. Isaac Smith and Addison Dobbs also scored for the Knights.Colony was the defending state champions. The Knights won it all in 2019. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Colony girls won in the quarters, beating Chugiak 3-1. Emily Moses scored twice, and Silvana Saucedo also scored a goal.
Wasilla suffered a tough loss in the Division I girls quarterfinals, falling to South Anchorage 3-2 in overtime. Kelsey Walker and Chloe Dolman scored for the Warriors. West beat Wasilla 2-0 in an elimination game.
In the Division II tournament, the Redington girls earned a state tourney victory for the first time in school history. The Huskies beat Monroe Catholic 4-3 in the consolation semifinals. Monroe beat Redington 4-1 in the fourth-place game. Thunder Mountain beat Redington 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
Juneau-Douglas got past Palmer 3-0 in the girls quarterfinals. North Pole defeated Palmer 2-1 in an elimination game.
Soldotna beat Palmer 4-0 in the Division II boys semifinals. Palmer suffered a 3-1 loss to North Pole in an elimination match.
