PALMER — A Colony senior used a pair of first-place finishes to help the Knights place second overall during the Palmer Invitational at Palmer High School.
Julian McPhail won both the boys’ high jump and long jump during the regular season track and field event. McPhail hit 5-foot-10 in the high jump. He also recorded a personal record 19 feet, 8.75 inches in the long jump. Zane Vrvilo (200 meters) and Jake Waterhouse (800 meters) recorded second-place finishes for Colony.
The Palmer girls also finished as a runner-up in the team standings. Teeana Nicholai and Hailey Keil each won an event for the Moose. Nichoali was first in the shot put with a throw of 37-10.5. Keil was first in the triple jump with a leap of 31-0.50. Sophie Wright was second in the 800 meters. Palmer placed second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 girls’ relays.
Wasilla’s Allison VanPelt also earned a pair of victories. The senior standout finished first in the 800 with a season record time of 2 minutes, 23.17 seconds. She was also first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:10.54.
Connor Owens led the Palmer boys with a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles. Hanna Tennesen led Colony with a second-place finish in the girls’ discus.
