Cole Taylor will never forget his final night playing on the Houston Jr./Sr. High School hardwood.
The senior erupted for 41 points and helped lead the Hawks to a 91-90 overtime win over Mount Edgecumbe during the 3A Eastern Conference boys title game March 10. Taylor hit nine threes in the win, and added six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Fellow senior Hayden Howard scored 25 points. Noah Whitted finished with a double-double, tallying 14 points and 11 assists.
Houston trailed 22-11 in the first quarter, but forced overtime with a 22-15 run in the fourth.
The Hawks opened the tourney with a 76-41 win over rival Redington. Taylor and Howard scored 20 points each. Deegan VanDussen added a dozen.
Doyle Bond led Redington with 16 points. Bryce Murdock added 14.
Houston earned the No. 3 seed in the ASAA/First National Bank 3A State Basketball Championships, which start March 22 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage. The Hawks will face sixth-seeded Valdez March 22 at 7:45 p.m. in the first round.
