PALMER — The Colony Knights were two points away from the sweep, but Palmer rallied and stayed alive. The Moose were in reach of forcing a fifth set, but Colony found a way to win.

The Knights scored a 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 28-30, 25-22) win over the Moose Tuesday night at Palmer High School.

“We tried to keep things simple, not try to do too much,” Colony head coach Steve Reynolds said after the win. “I think that was the key.”

Colony led 19-13 during the fourth set, but Palmer cut the score to 23-21.

“Palmer was cutting at us, forcing us to play some better defense,” Reynolds said.

In the third, Colony led 14-8 and 20-16. But Palmer climbed its way back. Senior Jenna Whisenhunt used an ace to tie the game at 23. That started a run of six tied scores before the Moose earned the 30-28 win in the third game with a Colony attack error.

“As a coach I liked the third game,” Reynolds said. “Teams need to be in those situations. They need to be tested.”

With the win, Colony finishes the regular season undefeated in the Northern Lights Conference with an 8-0 record.

“We’ve been playing well,” Reynolds said.

Abby Gooch led the Knights with 37 assists in the match. Alyvia Davis finished with 12 kills and four blocks. Taylee Weiss added a dozen kills. Mia Hinchberger collected 19 digs.

Palmer dropped to 3-4 in conference play. Riley Thompson led Palmer with 10 kills and 13 digs. Whisenhunt added nine kills, nine digs and three aces. Katy Meaney collected 26 assists and 15 digs.
