PALMER — A pair of Palmer freshman helped the Moose finish first in the boys standings during the Colony Invitational cross-country running meet Aug. 29 at Colony High School.
Ninth graders Fischer Adams and Tobin Miller finished in second and third place for Palmer, which finished with 29 points in the team standings. Adams clocked a time of 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Miller was right behind at 17:52. Seniors Mike Reem and Noble Gurney finished sixth and seventh for Palmer.
Sophomore Shea Alaniva led Colony to a team title with a runner-up finish and time of 21:58 in the girls’ standings. The Knights finished with 26 total points in the standings. Lydia Bushey (fourth), Lucy Shea (fifth), Monica Bustillos (ninth) and Emma Hopkins (10th) also placed in the top-10 for Colony.
Colony sophomore Zac Cheyette and Palmer senior Sophie Wright earned individual titles for the second straight week. Cheyette finished first in the boys’ race with a time of 17:37. Wright was first in the girls’ race with a mark of 20:44. Both were also individual winners during the Redington Invitational during the opening week of the Mat-Su prep cross-country running season.
Cheyette led Colony to a second-place finish in the boys’ team standings. Tobias Buchanan (fourth), Zachary Daniel (Colony) and Jayden Rice (ninth) all finished in the top 10 for the Knights.
Monroe Swain (sixth) and Elisabeth Hennemann (eighth) added top-10 finishes for the Palmer girls.
Freshman Mya Campbell led the Redington girls with a third-place finish. Senior Landon Hayes placed fifth to lead the Wasilla boys.
