Palmer senior Katey Houser hit the trail for the Smokin’ Stampede and notched a blazing time en route to her fifth win of the season.

Houser used a mark of 19 minutes, 3 seconds to win the girls varsity race Saturday at Kincaid Park in Anchorage. The time is a season best for Houser and about for seconds faster than Chugiak’s Campbell Peterson, the runner-up in the race. Colony freshman Ella Hopkins finished sixth in the girls race with a time of 19:35.

A pair of Valley runners finished in the top five of the boys varsity race. Palmer’s Fischer Adams (16:32) was fourth and Colony’s Tobias Buchanan (16:37) was fifth. Colony’s Zac Cheyette (16:45) also placed 10th, and Palmer’s Tobin Miller (16:50) was 14th.

Brennan Lackey led Wasilla with an 11th-place finish in the boys race and Mya Campbell notched a time of 21:26 to lead the Redington girls.

Colony finished fourth in both the girls and boys team standings to lead Valley squads.
