Wayde Bowman

Redington's Wayde Bowman passes over Kenai Central's Reagan Graves on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at Kenai Central High School in Kenai, Alaska.

Redington quarterback Wayde Bowman passed for seven touchdowns and 502 yards to lead the Huskies to a 62-14 victory over Kenai Central at Ed Hollier Field on Saturday.

The Huskies won on Kenai’s homecoming to improve to 2-0 in the Mid Alaska Conference and 4-0 overall, while the Kardinals dropped to 0-2 and 0-3. Bowman went 25 of 34 without throwing an interception.

Redington got out of the gates quickly. Bowman tossed a 30-yard scoring strike to Wyatt Milnes on the opening drive of the game. The Huskies then recovered an onside kick, but the Kardinals were able to thwart that drive.

Redington immediately grabbed the momentum back by recovering a fumble on the Kenai 13-yard line. On the next play, Jaden Spaulding ran 13 yards for a touchdown.

Spaulding was on his way to a huge first half. He would rush 13 times for 86 yards and catch four balls for 163 yards and three touchdowns before not being used in the offense in the second half.

After a three-and-out from the Kardinals, Spaulding again scored on the first play from scrimmage, this time a 55-yard pass from Bowman. That gave the Huskies an 18-0 lead after the first period.

Redington kept right on rolling in the second quarter. PomaiKai Vargas-Gutierres scored on a 3-yard run and Spaulding scored on 84- and 23-yard passes for a 40-0 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Bowman hooked up with Trevor Bowman on 30- and 55-yard scoring passes for a 54-0 lead after three quarters.

The Kardinals got things going on offense in the final quarter. Bridger Beck zipped a 27-yard touchdown pass to Wade James with 8:37 to play and Beck scored on a 20-yard run with 5:22 left.

Bowman had a 29-yard pass to Milnes in the final period.

Redington, which had 145 yards in penalties, was able to hold Kenai to 105 yards of total offense.

In addition to Spaulding, Trevor Bowman also went above 100 yards receiving by catching seven balls for 114 yards.
