West Anchorage needed overtime to sneak past Wasilla 2-1 during the final day of the End of the Road Tournament Nov. 20 in Homer.
West’s Aiden Fitzgerald scored on the power play with 1:02 left in the extra period to give the Eagles the win, and the tourney title.
Branson Starheim scored Wasilla’s lone goal. Starheim gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead with a power play goal with 11:29 left in the first. Wasilla’s Jakob Barcelona finished with 32 saves in the loss.
Wasilla finished 2-1 in the tourney. The Warriors also went to overtime against host Homer.
Roman Holler scored with 1:47 left in the tiebreaker to lead the Warriors to a 3-2 win over the Mariners. Holler tallied a pair of goals in the victory. Haedin Dubie also scored. Phillip Brevogel made 21 saves for the Warriors.
Wasilla also beat Kenai Central 2-1. Sayer Sanders scored the lone Wasilla goal. Barcelona notched the 16-save shutout.
Palmer notched a pair of wins in the Interior.
Palmer beat Monroe Catholic 4-1. Matias Broughton, Bryce Armstrong, Stuart McQuillin and Carter Greco scored for Palmer. Palmer’s Brody Joseph made 13 saves.
Palmer also blanked North Pole 2-0 with a pair of third-period goals. Armstrong and Greco scored for Palmer. Joseph made eight saves and earned the shutout in the Moose net.
