All adult participants can enter drawings for prizes by submitting the “Rate Your Date” form attached to the book. Forms can be dropped off in one of our prize jars to be eligible for the prize drawings at the end of the month.

It's Time for History Night! -February 20th

We are excited to have Helen Hegener, author of The 1935 Matanuska Colony, The Beautiful Matanuska Valley, & many other books on local & Alaskan history. Helen has also written The Alaska Railroad: 1902-1923, Blazing an Iron Trail Across the Last Frontier, published in May 2017 by Northern Light Media.

Helen’s book traces the history & construction of the railroad. Helen will present a slideshow for the Palmer Historical Society that will focus on the local history of Palmer, the old town of Matanuska, & the Matanuska coal region.

A side trip to Wasilla will include how the railroad's development led to the abandonment of the old town of Knik, once the largest and most important town in the Matanuska Valley.

Helen will have books available for purchase, & you can learn more about her work at her website http://www.northernlightmedia.com
