Everybody’s favorite community radio station, 89.7 Radio Free Palmer hosts a fundraiser and silent auction with Braided River opening for Great American Taxi.
Great American Taxi is a five-piece band hailing from Denver hails itself as “Americana Music Without Borders,” and has taken that brand throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.
Great American Taxi has recorded a number of albums, including 2009’s “Streets of Gold” and “Reckless Habits” and 2011’s “Paradise Lost”.
Opening for them is another Alaska band with a strong traveling reputation in Palmer-based Braided River, which has played Americana music all over the state.
Saturday: 7 p.m., Sheldon Arts Hangar, Talkeetna
As Wasilla, and the Mat-Su Valley as a whole, more or less, gets ready to celebrate their centennial, the Denali Arts Council is getting ready with an annual membership meeting with a celebration open to the public.
“Take Back the Time” kicks off at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Sheldon Arts Hangar in Talkeetna with the theme being the town’s centennial.
There will be an Alaska-themed potluck, games and entertainment. Everyone is welcome to wear their homesteader or ‘can-can’ attire and bring an Alaska-themed dessert.
The Denali Dames will be providing the music.

The Mat-Su Concert Band kicks off its 32nd season and second in the superb setting of the Massay Theater, the growing Mat-Su Concert Band goes for high-octane fun with all your movie favorites composed by John Williams.
Well-known tunes from Star Wars, Superman, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park and more highlight the playlist.

The world’s No. 1 high school musical passes through Anchorage starting Monday and plays every night next week at the Atwood Concert Hall.
Watch Danny, Sandy, the T-Birds, the Pink Ladies and the whole Rydell High gang as they sing, dance and take you back to a time when fast cars and rock and roll ruled.
Saturday: 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., Palmer High School
Before sundown, two high school football state champions will be crowned on the field of Palmer High, including a pair of Valley teams.
At 12:30, the Palmer Moose look to upset Soldotna, winners of more than 45 games in a row in the medium-sized schools championship, and at 4 p.m., the Houston Hawks take on Eielson High in a rematch of their hard-fought regular season matchup.
