WASILLA - This weekend will be the second annual Alaska Hemp Fest, a festival that is fundamentally a free speech event where the topic of cannabis in all its forms (such as industrial hemp and so on) is discussed. There will be live music throughout the three days. There will be food available and a variety of vendors will be onsite, both local and visiting. There will be building demonstrations, workshops, educational exhibits, arts and crafts, games, and prizes. There will be an assortment of talks on stage that will discuss the practical past, present and future applications of the plant; as the cannabis and hemp community learns and grows in an ever-shifting industry.
As of today, commercial hemp is still illegal in Alaska and that will be a major theme discussed throughout the weekend. Alaska Hempfest is a licensed affiliate of Seattle Hempfest.
The festival is centered on cannabis but marijuana smoking is not allowed on site. The family-friendly event is open to all ages. Admission is free, though there is a $10 suggested donation.
It will be at the Flag Day Fest Grounds, 700 S. Half Curl Drive (off Vine).
Parking: $5 per vehicle. Dry camp sites: $10/night or $25/3 nights.
