ANCHORAGE — Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling recognized outstanding achievements in recycling and litter prevention in Alaska in 2012 at its annual awards banquet May 2 at the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. This year’s theme was Celebrating Alaska’s Great Outdoors and celebrates the work and achievements of Alaska’s recycling innovators and stewards for a litter-free environment.
ALPAR is celebrating 30 years in operation and many of its original founding businesses remain supporters. By acknowledging exceptional service and contributions to recycling and litter prevention, the ALPAR awards encourage everyone in Alaska to do their part to prevent and clean up litter and reduce, reuse and recycle waste while continually developing better business methods that lend to sustainable and beautiful communities.
The city of Palmer received the Outstanding Litter Program Award for its exemplary efforts to expand spring cleanup to a full week giving its army of volunteers more flexibility and opportunity to pitch in.
Colony High School’s Junior Army ROTC is recognized for Outstanding Service for volunteer efforts in support of recycling at the Alaska State Fair and its monthly volunteer work at Valley Community for Recycling Solutions.
ALPAR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing economically viable recycling and eliminating litter in Alaska.
