Alaska State Troopers will conduct a second Alaska State Trooper Citizens Academy starting Aug. 14 and continuing for 14 weeks. This is a good opportunity to more fully understand and appreciate what troopers do for the community.
Some of the many topics covered include domestic violence, judicial services, criminal investigations, DUI/drug recognition, crime prevention, K-9 usage, Neighborhood Watch, personal safety defensive tactics, search and rescue and firearms training. Sessions are held at the Department of Corrections Training Academy in Palmer.
Applicants must pass a background check. Felony convictions and some misdemeanor convictions will bar them from participating, according to an AST press statement.
Applications are due by July 16 and can be found online at dps.alaska.gov/PIO/citizenacademy.aspx.
