HATCHER PASS — The Archangel Creek Bridge, at approximately Mile 2, Archangel Road — just before the Reed Lakes Trailhead and parking area — is closed indefinitely to vehicle traffic.
Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities announced this week that the bridge in the Hatcher Pass Management Area is close to vehicle traffic after state engineers determined that the bridge is no longer structurally sound.
While the bridge remains open to foot traffic, DOT cautions users to be careful when using the bridge to access the old mining road and the Reeds Lakes Trailhead.
Travelers are encouraged to carpool when possible and to park vehicles off the road as much as possible to let others through. Large recreational vehicles and trailers are discouraged.
For recreational use questions, contact Alaska State Parks at 745-8950. For mining access questions, contact the Division of Mining, Lands and Water at (907) 269-8503.
