Food drive begins Oct. 1

The Palmer Food Bank will hold its “Palmer Pantry Push” food drive from Oct. 1 through 11. Groups will be gathering food at a variety of locations around Palmer. Donations may also be dropped off at the food bank, or call Patti at 746-2135 to schedule a pickup. For more information, call the food bank at 746-3565.

Quilters to meet

The Valley Quilters Guild will meet on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Palmer Depot. The meeting will include the group’s annual business meeting and board member elections, as well as a potluck. New members welcome. For more information, call 355-4298.

Contra dance planned

The first contra dance of the season will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Palmer Salvation Army Community Center at 209 W. Evergreen Street. Live music will be performed by Shonti Elder and Friends, with called Robyn Lauster. Cost is $8 per dancer, $5 for students and children 12 and under are free.

‘Spooktacular’ to benefit Willow rebuild

The HAMS theater troupe, along with Sahara Storm Productions, will host a variety show on Oct. 3 at the Sheep Creek Lodge to raise funds for the Willow Community Rebuilding Proejct in the wake of the Sockeye Fire. The family show will be held at 4 p.m. and an adult revue will be held at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 or $25 for seniors, children and the military and are available at the lodge. Garden Club to meet

The Valley Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 at the First Baptist Church of Wasilla, located at the corner of Bogard Road and Leatherleaf Loop. Guest speaker will be Heidi Garditee from Aurora Flowers. She’ll be making arrangements titled Home Grown Floral Pieces. Door prize drawings and a potluck wil flollow the meeting. All are welcome. ‘Harvest Recycle Fest’ set for Oct. 9

Valley Community for Recycling Solutions is hosting its second annual “Harvest Recycle Fest” on Friday, Oct. 9 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Palmer Depot. Tickets get attendees local food, fresh-pressed cider, brew and live music. Call 745-5544 for more information.

4-H open house planned

The Mat-Su/Copper River 4-H District will hold an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Cooperative Extension Office at 1509 S. Georgeson Road in Palmer. This is an opportunity to find out about the club’s activities and special events for kids in Kindergartten through 12th grade.

Health fair to be held Oct. 14

Alaska Health Fair Inc. will hold a community health fair at the Mat-Su Senior Center in Palmer on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.
