Art Beat: Summer soul impetus

Jacob Mann

Hi, my name is Jacob Mann. I cover the Art Beat for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.

Summer Solstice happened, and while it wasn’t the sunniest of days, light persisted through the clouds most of the day. Now that summer is “officially” here, I thought I’d share some solstice-inspired quotes.

“Each solstice is a domain of experience unto itself. At the Summer Solstice, all is green and growing, potential coming into being, the miracle of manifestation painted large on the canvas of awareness.”

- Gary Zuka

“Be like the flower, turn your face to the sun.”

- Kahlil Gibran

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”

- Charles Bowden

“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds.”

- Regina Brett

“If I had to choose a religion, the sun as the universal giver of life would be my god.”

- Napoleon Bonaparte

The summer wind came blowin’ in from across the sea

It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me

All summer long we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand

Two sweethearts and the summer wind

Like painted kites, those days and nights they went flyin’ by

The world was new beneath a blue umbrella sky…

- Frank Sinatra

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

-Buddha
