WASILLA — Saturday is the annual Art on Fire event, now reaching a decade old.
The Valley Arts Alliance is putting on the show, partnering with the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry and will be presented there. The event’s title, ‘10 x 100’ is a combination of the event’s 10th year running and the city of Wasilla’s 100th anniversary.
Art on Fire is exactly how it sounds; all demonstrations performed throughout the day involve very hot temperatures that form works of art in real time.
Pat Garley, a metal sculptor from Palmer will be showcasing his iron pour techniques. Sandra Cook will be demonstrating how she makes Raku Pottery that’s fired in an outdoor kiln. Judy Vars will present her encaustic wax painting, which involves heated beeswax that is later colored.
She will also perform her other fiery arts, such as glass flameworking. Sahara Storm Tribal Dance Troupe will be forming a fire dance. The Association of Alaskan Blacksmiths will demonstrate blacksmithing techniques. Live music will also be available throughout the day.
The ticket price is $10, with children under 12 admitted free.
The museum is located at 3800 W. Museum Drive (near the airport).
