PALMER — This month’s Palmer Second Saturday Art Walk has combined with the annual Palmer Mid-Summer Garden and Art Faire from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., July 13. The annual garden faire will again feature plants from various local nurseries, art and food vendors.

To be eligible for this month’s prize raffle, walkers must visit 10 of the 20 stops and complete the Grow Palmer challenge along the way. The challenge involves identifying at least one plant at eight select Grow Palmer Edible Walk locations listed on the Art Walk map. As a bonus, complete the Museum Garden Bards’ task and earn an extra entry into the Art Walk raffle.

A slate of workshops, live music, a contra dance, a new event called the “Rhubarb Rumble” and a legendary scavenger hunt are planned Saturday throughout downtown Palmer.

Workshops are scheduled throughout the day at the Palmer Library, 655 S. Valley Way; Palmer Museum Garden, 723 S. Valley Way; Alaska Bible College Classrooms, 248 Elmwood Ave.; and Alaska Bible College Kitchen, 248 Elmwood Ave. See related story for a list of classes, times and locations.

During the Rhubarb Rumble from 2 to 4 p.m., walkers can visit any of the participating locations — Eagle Hotel, Palmer Bar, Non-Essentials, Hot Hot Chocolate, Turkey Red, Pizzaria Delphi, Humdinger’s or Rusty’s — and sample their rhubarb recipes.

Country Legends Scavenger Hunt is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes stops at The Gallery, Palmer Museum and Visitor Center, Palmer Bar, Garden Gate, Non-Essentials, Fireside Books, Stamp Cache, Sidekicks Gift Store, Valley Hotel, AK Cell Repair, Shane Lamb Studio and Humdinger’s.
