There are only two more Palmer Art Walks scheduled for this year. This month’s theme is Alaska trivia and the monthly art walk is from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday. A trivia contest will give walkers the opportunity to prove their knowledge of all things Alaska.
The Art Walk also will offer free raffle tickets for every three cans of food donated at the Palmer Museum on Saturday as part of the Palmer Food Bank’s annual Palmer Pantry Push, which restocks the shelves in time for the holiday season.
Below, is a list of what’s happening:
Thrifters Rock will have two vendors selling fresh Alaska Grown veggies all day during the Saturday of the Art Walk. They will also be supporting the Palmer Pantry Push by entering folks in a drawing to win Thrifters gift cards for bringing in three cans of food.
Arkose Brewery celebrates its third year anniversary in Palmer with a special Beer Meets Chocolate event at 2 p.m. featuring hand-crafted Valrhona French Luxury chocolates paired with hand-crafted artisan ales from Arkose. There will be a prize drawing for those participating. This event is open only to those 21 years or older and reservations are encouraged. For more information, or to make your reservation, call 746-2337.
The collective will have several items on display and available for purchase inside the Turkey Red banquet room.
The museum will feature its October exhibit, Recuerdas, Reinterpreting Ofrendas. The exhibit celebrates Dia de los Muertos through an assemblage of contemporary interpretations of the altars — ofrendas — used during the Day of the Dead celebrations. The museum will serve a variety of Mexican food tidbits and host a free sugar skull decorating session from 2 to 5 p.m. while supplies last.
This local art supply store and gallery will host a fall show comprised of artwork from a variety of local artists who have created works inspired by the fall season. Madd Matters will also be accepting donations for the Palmer Pantry Push.
This local favorite gift store has just recently restocked its shelves with a variety of new teas and a great selection of new pastas, candles, spices and flavors. They will also be hosting artist Patty Halley, who will have her work on display and a variety of Eskimo doll ornaments available for purchase.
The great Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas was born Oct. 27, 1914. Fireside Books will celebrate his 100th birthday at 3 p.m., Oct. 11 with an informal dramatic reading of the classic radio play “Under Milk Wood.” The play is a blending of prose and poetry. It is musical, bawdy, funny and sad.
5 Valley Quilters Guild
With the state fair over and crops harvested, the Valley Quilters Guild members are settling in for another winter season of sewing. Many quilters are working on things like Halloween wall hangings, Thanksgiving table runners and Christmas gifts. Walkers can stop in during their open sew day to see them in action and learn more about their organization.
Linda Grimes will be Healing Path’s featured artist. She will display and sell her most recent work from 2 to 6 p.m. Healing Path Therapeutic Massage will also have two therapists to provide chair and foot massage at the discounted rate of $1 per minute from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will also have drawings for two 20-minute chair massages. Call Pamela J Stephen at 715-8748 or Carrie D. McAllister at 715- 8725 to reserve your time or drop in and take the next spot.
Charlene Renz is the gallery’s featured artist for October. She started learning the art of quilting in 1982. After retiring about four years ago she purchased a sewing/embroidery machine and started her own business: Pretty Pieces by Charlene. Renz has quilting, embroidery and sewing items in her collection. She can also adapt her designs with custom colors to fit your needs. She will be bringing a few new products for people to check out. Meet Charlene and view her work in person from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The store will host local artist Nancy Moss. Inspired by her love of all things Alaskan and fueled by cabin fever, Moss paints free-form watercolors offered in originals, prints and cards.
Cover Ups will have Nancy’s “Dressing for the Rut” series, in which Nancy took her idea that male moose should have to work a little harder — and be a little more creative — to attract the ladies. Bear, rabbit, fish, fantasy landscapes and more followed this idea.
The hair salon/studio will feature the works of their own stylists in a photograph display of their creations with brief bios of each stylist. B Bella will also be hosting guitarist, Nick McCasland, who will perform live throughout the Art Walk.
The coffee shop will feature the work of artist Tina Fisher.
