MAT-SU — A community effot is underway to help remodel the home of Ted “Russell” Adkins, who recently had one of his legs amputated just below his knee due to the complications from diabetes.
While he recuperates at a medical assisted living facility for the next several months, friends are working to raise funds and remodel his home to make it accessible for him so he can continue to live there self-sufficiently.
“Ted is a pillar in the community and has given so much of himself — to helping others in times of need, from food drives to toy drives,” said Glen Butts. “Every year he volunteers to play Santa Claus for all the children at the Alano Club of Wasilla, as well as other facilities.”
A community spaghetti feed, auction and dance is planned from 6 to 10 p.m., April 12 at the American Legion Post 15, 1550 Mystic Cir., in Palmer to help pay the costs of remodeling his home.
Dinner is served from 6 to 8 p.m. and the auction is from 7 to 8 p.m.
Live music will be provided from 8 to 10 p.m. by musician Paul Pike and the band Against the Grain.
Tickets are $10 at the door and kids 12 and under get in free.
Auction donations and volunteers are needed to help with the event.
