ANCHORAGE — Cyrano's Theatre Company is currently showing award winning playwright and performer Cooper Bates’ production “Black Out” through April 14.
“Black Out” has been described as a “brings a fascinating and powerful coming-of-age story” featuring autobiographical accounts from Bates’ life.
“Black Out” is a solo performance with Bates at center stage. The Los Angeles based performer and playwright said this is part two of a five part series depicting different chapters of his life.
“I think thats our purest commody is our life stories,” Bates said during a telephonic interview.
Bates said that he cherishes being so heavily involved with theater. He said the medium has a lot to offer.
“I think live theater is the best thing we've got," Bates said. “When its good it just hits on all levels and its amazing. I think it's the most human artistic expression that we have.”
Bates said that he's happy to have the opportunity to work with Cyrano's Theatre again.
“They're quite skilled. They have a beautiful stage. I think they're amazing, honestly,” Bates said.

Showtimes for “Black Out” are at 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; and 3 p.m. on Sundays.
Cyrano's Theatre is located at 3800 Debarr Road in Anchorage.
