Toastmasters speech contest is Tuesday

Palmer Toastmasters Club is sponsoring a speech contest and the public is invited from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 20 in the MTA conference room, located in the basement of MTA’s building in Palmer. ‘Healing Yoga for the Compromised Immune System’

A class on “Healing Yoga for the Compromised Immune System” meets Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., through Oct. 14 at the Anjali Yoga Room, 280 Main St., in Wasilla. The Alaska MS Center in conjunction with the Mat-Su Foundation is providing scholarships for those diagnosed with MS to attend these sessions for free. ‘Big Hair Alaska’ to air Tuesday

‘Big Hair Alaska,’ a reality TV show about the Beehive Beauty Shop in Wasilla, is set to air at 10 p.m., Eastern time, Sept. 20 on TLC. Check local listings for Alaska broadcast times. The first of two episodes features the staff as they struggle to accommodate four brides and their bridal parties on the same day.

Meet wireless network pioneer at Fireside Sept. 21

Meet Palmer resident Alex Hills from 4 to 6 p.m., Sept. 21 at Fireside Books, 720 S. Alaska St., in Palmer. Hills will be available to sign copies of his new book “Wi-Fi and the Bad Boys of Radio.” The book tells the story of how he built the world’s first Wi-Fi network.

KTNA art auction is Sept. 24

The 16th Annual KTNA 88.9 FM Art Auction begins at 3 p.m., Sept. 24 at Sheldon Community Arts Hangar in Talkeetna. Admission includes reception, live music, and silent auction and a grand finale Live Art Auction at 5 p.m. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Donations of art for the auction will be accepted until Aug. 31.

Palmer health fair is Sept. 24

A Palmer community health fair is planned from 8 a.m. to noon, Sept. 24 at Hoskins Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer.
