RFP issued for security company to guard prison
The Alaska Department of Corrections is looking for a security firm to keep an eye on the as-yet-unopened Goose Creek Correctional Center.
According to a noticed posted on the state’s website, bids are being accepted starting Tuesday. The guards the state wants are to be unarmed and given a vehicle to drive around the prison’s perimeter.
“Security Officer must make sufficient trips around the perimeter to ensure the security of the facility. This will require a minimum of one trip around the perimeter per hour,” according to the bid solicitation.
The guards will go on duty after the workday at the prison ends from the date they are hired until Feb. 29, 2012.
Lindberg joins staff at Wasilla Physical Therapy
Jean Lindberg, PT, COHC, has joined the staff at Wasilla Physical Therapy. She brings 27 years experience as a physical therapist, receiving her degree from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Her areas of expertise include: foot evaluations and orthotic fabrication as Lindberg offers a unique, customized approach to evaluating and fitting for foot orthotics, at a reasonable cost to patients. Lindberg’s training includes worker’s comp injury rehabilitation. In addition, Lindberg is highly skilled and proficient in performing functional capacity evaluations, job site evaluations/ergonomic consultations, pre-work screening and injury prevention/work conditioning.
Lindberg is certified as an occupational hearing conservationist, in which she provides hearing screening and fitting of hearing protection devices. Lindberg is past president of the Mat-Su Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind) Club, whose focus is hearing health and service orientated outreach to the community.

Providence Alaska Medical Center was recognized for achievement in using evidence-based guidelines to provide the best possible care to patients through The American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines program.
Providence Alaska Medical Center and 814 other hospitals are featured in a special advertisement in the “America’s Best Hospitals” issue of U.S. News and World Report (August issue) to commemorate their receipt of Get With The Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award. A total of 961 awards were given for achievement in coronary artery disease, stroke and/or heart failure treatment.
There are weekly Toastmasters meetings in the Valley, one in Palmer in the evening and one in the morning in Wasilla. Mat-Su Toastmasters meets Tuesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Wasilla Area Senior Center. And the Palmer Toastmasters meet Tuesdays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. downstairs at the MTA Building in Palmer.
